Shoulder pain

it's my first time posting on this part of the forum but I hope someone can help. I have had pain the back on the left shoulder - it was making my arm go little numb sometimes and was especially painful if I would extend the shoulder across my chest so I went to see sports medicine specialist and he took xrays and said everything looked good and gave me painful cortisone shot into the back of the shoulder. Well, I had a huge cortisone flare that I couldn't move my arm but it went away after a day and shoulder feels little better - but pain is still there. I am not working out and just doing light shoulder excercises he gave me for now. Anyway, it's been 10 days since the shot and I still have a dull headache (mostly in the front), stomach ache and my body feels hot as hell - I get moments that out of nowhere i will start sweating and I get like hot flashes - all of this started since the shot so it makes me think that's the reason. Also, my anxiety went through the roof. Has any of you got the same side effects from cortisone shot If so, how long will this last? If I knew I wouldn't get that stupid shot but I listened to the doctor instead of doing some research on it. By the way I am 33 male. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

If you are sensitive to steroids, this would explain your reaction. But you should have a MRI of your neck (xrays may not show it) just to be on the safe side. Sometimes bulging discs in your neck can cause the same symptoms you are experiencing, especially the numbness - it sounds like perhaps a nerve is compressed. Either in the neck or in the shoulder.

Cortisone shots are a corticosteroid, a somewhat different formula than Prednisone. But a steroid nonetheless. Yes the side effects you are experiencing can very well be from the shot. People who are sensitive to steroids may experience "the flush" and hot flashes. It can also increase anxiety, cause agitation, insomnia, muscle pain, muscle cramps and headaches.

I was having similar pain as you. I had X-rays, physical therapy and was given nerve pain pills. It wouldn't go away so I was sent to a neurologist. He did a MRI and that is when I discovered I had two bulging discs in my neck. I received a series of cortisone injections in my discs (a series of 3), then again a year later because the pain came back. I've been pain free since. Hopefully you don't have bulging discs but if you do, I just wanted to let you know that it can be dealt with.

Red, thank you for your help - if I can ask, how long did your side effects last? I will check ask my doctor for an MRI and see what he says. I was wondering why I was having anxiety and some panic attacks since the shot and I guess it's the side effect. I take medication for Anxiety and Panic attack and I was just fine until I got that shot - I am hoping it goes away soon.

OK it's been almost two weeks now and I am still having this warm feeling all over my body but mostly in my face - pretty weird. The doctor's assistant did tell me they are giving me pretty high dosage. Thank you for your help.
