Hello,
I have started researching online about the Periacetabular Osteotomy surgery. I have had pain in my left hip since I was 19 and am 26 years old now. I still have the pain only now I am starting to get pain in my right hip as well. I've done physical therapy twice, done the cortisone shot, and taken the anti-inflammatory pills. Everything was just temporary relief. One doctor told me to try hip arthroscopy. I got a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ where two orthopedic surgeons conferred over my scans. They both agreed that a hip arthroscopy was not the way to go as I have hip dysplasia and the scope surgery could actually make me worse. They suggested PAO and to either go to Salt Lake City or Rochester, MN. I have family friends in MN that offered to take care of me after the surgery. Looking online though, I'm freaking myself out. It looks like such an intense surgery and I have such a low tolerance for pain. I want to avoid the surgery but hip dysplasia tends to only get worse as you get older. I was told by my doctor I have a 1-2 year window of time to get it. I'm just stressed out about it and wanted post on the forums in hopes to get some stories from those who have had gone through the PAO surgery. Thank you!
