Bi-Lateral Hip Replacement, issues with generalized inflammation

I had a bi-lateral total hip replacement 4 months ago. While I have recovered well, I am finding that I am having a generalized inflammation that is hard to "pin-point" as being specific to anything, but that I had a major surgery. My symptoms are: my feet and knees hurt- not so much while active, but after a period of inactivity, such as sleeping or sitting. Upon putting weight on my legs, I hobble about. My hands feel 'arthritic' and I have a generalized muscle fatigue. I realize I still have strengthening and flexibility to work on and do a lot of yoga. I have no pain doing this. I am a professional singer - classical - and I am having major issues with muscle fatigue, especially singing above the staff. I am a mezzo-soprano. I did have some laryngitis about a month ago, which was more fatigue and recovery related than sinus. I was wondering if anyone was experiencing the same thing? Anti-inflammatories don't really help. I have been going to acupuncture. I suppose nerves got pretty jangled up and I have anesthetic still in my system. My vocal chords are fine - was able to sing right after surgery - My anesthesiologist knew I was a singer and took great care. I sleep fairly well, but am so stiff and my arms fall asleep. This never happened before surgery. I am using a power supplement with all the usual good vitamins, herbs, etc. to help detox. Any suggestions?

Isn't the ball joint diseased and could cause the joint to continue to deteriorate even after the cap is installed?
Sounds like u may have osteoarthritis. Just to cap the ball joint is just a non permanent fix. Like replacing one rotten floor board and leave the others with a cover to fill in the rotten boards left in. It still continues to rot the floor boards in the same area. Just takes longer to notice . Then in the long run later down the road the component in the femur must be removed and a slightly larger one to replace the old component to line up with the new ball joint & takes longer to fix as well as longer rehab.

it needs to be done right and a total hip replacement will give you a longer and pain free life down the road. Eventually u will have to remove the whole joint anyway. So why not do it right. The cap has never held up for long there has been a lot of research on that technique. Lining up the leg and length is never a positive outcome.

Do some research on UR own be UR own advocate. Both my surgeons have been in the THR for many years and the THR has the better outcome the capping is just not efficient in the long run. This is what both my surgeons told me when I asked about the idea of capping the ball joint. Not many surgeons do that surgery anymore.

I have had two THR and no more osteo issues since the diseased bone has been replaced. Be sure u find the best THR specialist. No metal on metal components. And ask to see the components and the know which manufacturer. Become a specialist urself in THR. THE more u know the better u will recover.

I am very sorry to hear u have to go thru a THR. It's a long journey at first. U will Be glad u did it. I know that there r many other things to consider. That's why I suggest knowledge and research on UR own. This way u will be sure u made the best decision for u.

Hi, I am new to this forum.

 Like you, Mkpei, I had a bi-lateral hip replacement about 4 months ago. I am still recovering my strength and the ability to walk greater distances and go up and down steps. My knees hurt now, but not as bad as the AVN I had in my hips. I have been told that it could take up to a full yr following surgery to feel "normal." Had my last post-op visit a couple of weeks ago. Told the surgeon about the tingling and strange pains and feelings in my "spikes". He told me it was normal. since my nerves are coming back to life.

Yesterday, however, I awoke with a tingling in my left foot. Also, it felt like my foot had "fallen asleep" and it was colder than my right foot. It lasted all day and into the night. When I woke up this morning it was still feeling that way, although not as much as yesterday. I called and left a VM for my doc's assistant, but have no idea when they will call me back due to the upcoming holidays. I'm a bit concerned and hoping if they want me to come back in that it will happen before the end of this yr due to insurance changes..

I received a job offer today and am very excited. I hope I am physically able to do it. I tried a new job at 3 months post-op. That didn't work out. But now I am 7 months post op, so I hope this works out. I have been trying to find a better job since 2012, so here goes! Got brand new hips and I'm ready for a change!

I ended up with Femoral Nerve Damage, IT Band Damage, shorter leg which has messed up knee and foot/ankle.....I'm a mess and it's going on 5 yrs with Anterior Right Hip. I was 72 at time of surgery and did it due to horrible groin pain, which is gone now, but I deal with all the other stuff.....I'm 76 now ... and HOPE I never do another surgery....HOPE HOPE HOPE.

These are not walks in the park.
