Swollen hands and feet in mornings

Hi guys,

Visiting from the Crohns and A/P forums.  I have osteoarthritis as well as Fibro along with a 33 year history with Crohns.  I have been waking up with really swollen hands and feet every morning.  My hands are the worst.  The skin on my hands gets really tender to the touch too and it takes a while for the swelling to go down.  I will run my hands under warm water and massage them with soap to get them to ease up some. 

Could osteoarthritis cause these symptoms or should I investigate a little further?  My hands feel tingly like I have slept on them.  I find that everytime I wake up my hands feel asleep and swollen.  Just wondering if anyone has any idea whats going on?

Thanks Sherry!! My Osteo is kind thru out my body. Mainly neck, hips, knees, hands and feet. I also have Fibro so wondered if that could cause it too. I do have another question though, can foods affect your arthritis? I read somewhere that milk or cheese products can affect it. I see you have UC and I have CD, so thats why i was wondering if food could affect the arthritis like it can affect the IBD. Another thing, I was taking more calcium recently and cut it back down and today the hands are feeling somewhat better. So wondering if that was adding to it too.

Hey Nanners,

Symptoms of osteoarthritis vary greatly from person to person.  I have severe OA in my right thumb joint and that joint is swollen all the time.  I have limited movement in that thumb joint.  When I overuse it the swelling becomes more severe.

I do not have the swollen hands and finger in the morning.
