Hi, names Amy i'm 24 and 6 months ago I was diagnosed with severe OA in left hip (i have had episodes** of pain since I was 11), also have severe pain in right hip - consultant is stumped as to what is causing it - I believe may be referral pain? Is anyone else in this position? **Episodes of pain have been from a couple of weeks and longest 3 months. Until now I have been in pain for a solid 6 months :( I use crutches and a wheelchair, have been provided help from Occupational Therapy - bath board to get into bath to have shower and will soon require a raised toilet seat etc :( )
The reason for this post is to ask other sufferer's if they have ever used GABAPENTIN?
Let me explain what I take at the moment;
I take cocodamol 30/500mg 2 every 4 hrs. And I take 6 a day.
Plus at night I take amitryptelene* 10mg at night with another cocodamol. *also given for slight anti-depressant.
My pain management (PM) consultant now wants me to take 900mg of Gabapentin on top of everything else.
which would be 300mg morning, 300mg afternoon and 300mg at night?
I have a few concerns though,
All of the current prescribed medication that I take has the side-effects of being confused, drowsy, doped up etc. I have had to cut down the amitryptelene from 20mg to 10mg as I was struggling to function during the day. But (PM) now want me to take the Gabapentin on top of all my other meds which side affects are drowsiness, no energy etc! I tried to speak to my GP about the concerns of taking so much medication, ofcourse i'd like to be pain free, but the last 6 months, i've lost soo many days/weeks being doped up. And I want to be able to feel in control of my day not sleeping it away.
So back to the actual topic, sorry for longest bkground info, have any of you ever taken gabapentin? Did you have any side effects? Did it help with your OA or any other conditions? Do you think from a personal point of view that I am taken too many meds? (I appreciate you are not DR's) I have put off taken gabapentin for 1 month but have to start it 1st Jan. :l
Thanks for reading and any replies you post I really will appreciate you taking your time to provide me some advice.
Hope you all have a merry christmas and a happy new year!! :)
Amy xx
