December 30th I will be getting a new knee replacement. And I am wonder if anyone else out there had them done and how they are doing with it. I need both knees done so in 6 weeks the other one will be done.

I'm sure I show up in some of those links because I've talked about this a lot. So, just an update. I'm now four and a half years post surgery on my right knee, and I love my new knee. I still work out regularly and my left knee has stabilized so I still haven't had to have surgery on it, and it bothers me rarely. My knees will get stiff if I sit too long, but then I'm old! So I just don't sit for too long if I can help it.

I'm doing great four and a half years after surgery. Still working out, still pain-free. Good luck with your surgery!

I'm also having a total right knee replacement next week abroad and I'm really feeling uptight each day not knowing what will happen after. But I have total trust with my doctors and surgeons since they are experienced and well known about the procedure. Hopefully after the surgery I'll be spending days in rehab. I'll be flying this Saturday to India for my surgery and I know most of you would ask why India. I don't have health insurance and as we all know US is one of the most expensive places in the world to undergo knee replacement surgery. With the help of a medical tourism provider (PlacidWay)in Colorado, they were able to arrange my accommodation, treatment and any other form of care in one of the known private hospital in Bangalore. I hope that everything will went well.

I had total knee replacement 2/3/2014 by a highly ranked Orthopedic Surgeon at a great hospital. I have followed instructions, PT schedules, etc. and it HURTS. I am taking all of the prescribed pain relief meds as directed and it HURTS. However, I am a 75 year old former active bicycle racer, firefighter, sailboat racer, diver, etc., i.e. active "jock", have endured pain and injury, but this HURTS! The pain I had suffering from osteoarthritis does not compare. I hope it gets better. I will keep this posted.

Sorry for the late response, I've been busy with my recovery programme. I can say that my surgery went well outside the country through medical tourism. Price was definitely a factor for me but more important was finding a first rate hospital in India which made possible. The whole medical trip was organized and successful. I was able to spent 6 days in the hospital, the hospital cost, x-rays, transportation, MRI's, TKR, ICU gave me a reasonable cost of surgery. I was happy with their excellent nursing care, they have lots of nurses and doctors available all the time and extended hospital periods. I have to continue w/ my rehab programme for at least 3-6 months after my surgery to get the best result. And hopefully I can regain my strength soon enough. I'm very grateful to PlacidWay for arranging this medical journey and the entire team at Manipal Hospital for their excellent care.

bravura...mine was on a nightmare level but I am ok now. Don't overdo it...moderation is the key. Certainly it does hurt but should slowly become better. I hope this happens to you. Take care of yourself.

I get to go in for knee manipulation tomorrow 9 weeks after TKR. Lucky me!
