question about osteo vs. rheumatoid pain in hands

I'm usually on the lupus forum, but I also have osteoarthritis in hip, knees, spine and neck. My hands/fingers have been giving me fits lately - weak, painful and swollen - but no pronounced redness or warmth. It hurts to press on the finger joints, and making a fist (or trying to) is painful, as is, at times, driving, emptying dishwasher, gripping, opening doors, etc.etc. My rheumy suspects sero negative rheumatoid, but so far, Xrays indicate only osteo - though we haven't done films of my hands. Does this sound like osteo type pain?
