How can doctors tell if we have inflammation in any part of our bodies? How does it manifest? Is there something like redness or swelling that they see during an exam or do they have to run a MRI? Does it cause a temperature rise??

There are inflammation markers in the blood, so a simple blood test can show that you have inflammation. X-rays and MRI's are also used as diagnostic tools. It is not uncommon to run low grade fevers with different types of arthritis. My right elbow swells in size, and feels feverish to the touch when it is flaring up.

Over time, inflammation will cause x-ray changes that help to localize the source of the inflammation and pain. Arthritic joints tend to have "soft" looking bone margins rather than crisp, even ones.

I'm pleased that my CRP came in at 1.3 last year's labs....I still have TOO MUCH bodywide pain...deal with OA, Fibro and a mess of a hip replacement. J
