I've been doing some research on alternatives to LRTI and have read and watched videos on Prolotherapy. This is basically a series of injections that is meant to strengthen and regenerate tissue rather than undergoing surgery. I am wondering if anyone in this forum has considered this or discussed it with their doctor? I have a consultation in a couple weeks and will certainly ask about Prolotherapy in lieu of LRTI.

I would appreciate any feedback or experiences any of you may have.

Hi Poppity, Prolotherapy has been kicked around several years ago here at Healing Well. I searched through our archives & there is nothing current here at Healing Well. It was pretty controversial back then as the members that tried it for various reasons had no success. Their private insurance would not pay for it & they spent a lot of money for nothing. Has this improved or changed since, then I have no idea. Basically back then they injected tendons & such with a substance (dextrose or saline) that caused irritation with hopes it would start the healing process. People that produce a lot of scar tissue ended up worse off because scar tissue was part of the deal.

Do a lot of research, check with reputable medical websites such as the Mayo Clinic & such. If you decide to proceed make sure your insurance will pay, otherwise your bank acct will get a lot lighter. Take care.

I am just starting to look at alternatives; prolotherapy looked attractive because of the non-surgical aspect. I will definitely do some further research and see what the literature sys. I appreciate your response!

Edit: after looking on the Mayo Clinic website, they do not recommend prolotherapy. There's just not good evidence that it works, but ample evidence of the damage it can cause.
