Hi Cris, I have tried the Proventil HFA albuterol and it really did not help me.  The Proair HFA works the best for me.  I am just one of those lucky people who don't get the jitters from albuterol.  Have you asked your dr. about symbicort for a long term inhaler?  I don't think it uses an HFA propellant.  I don't know how it works exactly but it has a counter on the top so you can easily track your uses.  And It doesn't start counting immediately.  You have to prime it 4 times and then start to use it.  The counter will count down to zero but it will give you a warning part on the counter in yellow when you get down to 20 puffs so you can get your refills.  I like it because I cleared up after my very first use.  It has been a god send for me. I hope you find the best meds for you and do let me know how it is going for you.  Will be glad to offer any suggestions or help if I can. Oh and while I think of it I do use my spacer with it.  And if you switch to symbicort never use more than the 2 puffs at a time.

Hi:) I have been mainly on the diabetes group. Too much prednisone gave me diabetes so have been working on this lately. I changed all my doctors when I was sick for a year and none of them could say why. Seems I was diabetic with blood sugars in the 600 to 800s and almost died before I switched doctors. These new doctors put me on Advair twice a day for asthma. Between the Advair and twice daily DuoNeb, I have not had any major trouble with my asthma. Before this year on these meds I was in the hospital 5 or more times a year with major asthma attacks Where each time the doctors were not sure I would survive. Plus every day was a struggle to breath. If anyone has this problem I suggest talking to your doctor about Advair or an inhaler like it. For me, it has given me a regular life where I can do anything I want now! I have a stock of albuterol(the old kind!) to last until the end of 2010. I have a question. Does anyone know of a good air purifier? My neighbor uses a LOT of fabric softener and it is one of things that sets off my asthma. We just moved from a house to a condo and her dryer vents through my dryer. Thanks:)
