I have been through numerous tests and specialists (Pulmonologist, Allergist, Gastroenterologist) the past two years. I have had shortness of breath on and off throughout that time and a lot of excess phlegm. I was given many steroid inhalers that seemed to make matters worse. I was diagnosed with severe gerd which that thought was possibly causing breathing problems. In the beginning I was told I had a mild airway obstruction. I was a smoker for 27 years and quit when this all started. I was told this is not emphysema from the CT scans and many other tests I have had. I thought when I quit smoking things would improve ( they have a little). I just had Nissen fundoplication surgery to help with the reflux which hopefully will help with the breathing. My question is, does this sound like ashma? Can ashma bring on shortness of breath at rest and a lot of excess phlegm daily? I used to get seasonal ashma symtoms, but never to this extent. I am hoping within the next few months I will notice a difference from surgery. It is really discouraging, I am only 46 years old and feel like my life has been on hold for two years. Anyones input would be helpful.
Thanks so much
