Sulfa allergies

Hi I usually post at the fibro page but had a question for you guys.  Does anyone have a sulfa allergies?  I had a bad allergic reaction to a sulfa based drug and ensure.  What foods can you not eat?  Just wondering I want to be safe until I can get to a allergist.

I have sulfa allergies but I do not have sulfite (which is found in food) allergies.  These are different from each other.  Sulfa in medications cause me to have a wide array of symptoms such as welts to severe intestinal upset.

I am allergic to sulfa, due to using it a lot for bladder infections. I do not have problems with any foods, but make sure I make it known that I have this drug allergy--checking to see if whatever drug is recommended isn't related to sulfa.

I have a newly discovered allergy to sulfonamide (sulfa) drugs too. My allergist insists (and many web sources agree) that this does not make me prone to allergic reactions to either sulfur or sulfites. I believe I've had some wine with sulfites in it since then, and didn't have any problems. Apparently, these three chemical compounds are different enough that the immune system CAN tell the difference.

Like Denise, I just have to let all my medical folks know of the allergy, as meds are the only way I could encounter sulfa.
