Hi

My 9 year old daughter has suffered from asthma since birth. She has the allergy type where she gets a horrible cough to the point she can't breathe. We have tried all the medications and puffers and nothing really worked well. Then I read an article saying that new research was showing that taking 1-2 teaspoons of flax seed oil each day was good for asthma because it opens up the airways and it fights infections. Well, it has been a miracle. Since my daughter has been taking it she has not needed her puffer once and no more late night coughing attacks. Check with your doctor first, I don't know if it will work for everyone but it has been a life saver for us.

Thanks for sharing GBO :) My son has the cough variant asthma and if he has a flare up then I might have him try this. Does it have to be the oil directly or can it be in capsule form? My son is now 18 and is "growing" out of it so hopefully he won't have any other issue with it.

I give my daughter the flaxseed oil from the bottle mixed in with food since it is quite horrible to take on its own, but I am sure the capsules would work the same. Good luck, I hope it works.

Hey GBO,

Thank you for sharing the information. Even my kid has been suffering from asthma and he is just 4 years old. Can I give this flaxseed oil? Pls advice.

Hi

Definitely speak to your pediatrician first. All I can say is that it worked for my daughter, I don't know if it will work for everyone. Flaxseed oil is natural and I am not sure if some people are allergic to it, so that is why I would ask your doctor first. Good luck.

Hey GBO,

I have checked with my doctor and as you said he also told me that Flaxseed oil is allergic to few people. So he is not in a position to advice me on the same. I am confused now. I don't know whether I can go for it.

Hey, All.
I'm a new member, been an asthmatic since 1997, am 58 years old and my biggest issues are breathlessness and total lack of energy to do most anything. I've been thru everything, including Xolair injections (6 months, they didn't help so Pulmy discontinued), and three months of IVI monthly infusions (that made me very, very sick). Yes, I'm on all the usual meds, and I find I get panicky when I go out to the store (I have to use a riding cart), with my ProAirHFA inhaler in my pocket at the ready. This lack of energy and breathing/coughing has given me a very unproductive and unsatisfying life. I've also had my heart and blood checked, the docs usually say, well, with your prednisone use and all the meds.......
There may be nothing I can do at this juncture (my pulmy has said only thing he can do is send me to the Denver, Colorado, (Jewish?) Center that is supposed to be the Mayo Clinic for asthmatics for a consult workup which I can't afford (I'm on Medicare and disabled after working 34 years). I've never smoked, incidentally, but worked in a condemned (sick) building (temporarily) for 7 years when our employer looked for other office area many, many years ago. A bunch of us got respiratory problems later in life.

Any suggestions for more energy? (i.e., supplements, etc., anything?)

Hey Maryann,

My Dad has asthma about 27 years and it seems that he always had allergies. It is very important to clean and vaccum everyday. We discovered that certain vitamin and mineral supplements have helped him over the years. And, eating a healthy diet also helps. Years ago he used to have junk food junkie and sick all the time. Each day we look for ways to improve his health by giving him supplements like vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, magnesium, Grape Seed Extract, and Cordycepts have been effective in the treatment of asthma

He always has asthma but we believe with a healthy body we'll be able to handle this disease a little better.

Hi to all, I'm new here the first topic that caught me is about asthma...I will never forget the first time my asthma attacked me. It was last July 18, 2008 I suffered from difficulty of breathing, I take antibiotic and spraying my inhaler but still can’t breathe properly, until I can’t walk even one step ahead when my wife bring me to the hospital the doctor found out that I have a pneumothorax, and need an operation or else I will die within that day. To make it short the doctor treated me by inserting a syringe or a tube into the pleural cavity of my lungs to aspirate air, which helps my collapsed lung to expand. I stayed in the hospital for a month. But look at me now, I was so thankful that God gave me change to live again and to share this to all asthmatic and to let them know not to ignore their asthma because it will kill them.

Hey Kevin,

Sad to hear about your condition but glad to hear that you are feeling better now. I agree with you, asthma is a terrible disease anyone can have on this earth. I am suffering from asthma for last two years. But with proper medication and care you can keep it in control.

I had good results using quercetin. it is a supplement. never heard of the flax for this... I will keep that in mind!
