Hook, Sorry you're experiencing this. I don't have an answer, but as a chronic hive sufferer I just wanted to let you know you're not totally alone. They haven't figured mine out at all.
Out of curiosity - what do your hives look like? Where do you get them? Many at a time? Just interested if they're anything like what I experience.
As for the dermatologists - I'm not very excited about
derms. I've not been impressed with the ones I've dealt with. (Sorry to any good ones out there - but that's my personal experience).
I did have better luck talking with an allergist - but in the end, he stopped trying when he couldn't find a neat and tidy answer for my hives. I'm about
to see a rheumatologist/immunologist for my fibromyalgia issues and may see if he has any leads on this hive issue of mine. If I learn anything useful, I'll come back and post. Meanwhile, please keep us posted on what you discover.
Oh - side note - but hives can be a symptom for people with gluten intolerance or celiacs disease. Not saying you sound like it - but it is a stone to turn over.
That's a very interesting bit of info, SpottedFoxx. Thanks for sharing that I'm going to have to google more about
this tomorrow.

Actually Hook, it may be a mast cell disorder. I broke out in hives every time I worked out. It was my only known trigger. I would also break out in hives for absolutely no reason. I went to the allergist who had some experience with mastocytosis so she ordered a tryptase blood test (tests the amount of histamine in your blood). I was 7x the normal level. I had a bone marrow biopsy (not as bad as you think) and it confirmed that I had systemic mastocytosis. Now, after being on meds for a year, I can work out without any issues. Ask your allergist.
