Hi,
usually don't post on this forum but thought I would see what everyone is posting about. I do use a maintenance inhaler, Symbicort and it too is very expensive. I have
researched if there is a generic maintainance inhaler and there does not seem to be one.
You can get a generic rescue inhaler which is just Albuterol but I have called all around
and no pharmacy says that a generic is made. I use insurance to pay for my Symbicort
and I also called the company and they gave me a special card. With this card I got my
first new prescription of the year for free. After that I have 11 prescriptions that are only
$25. Unfortunately I won't get to use all 11 refills. I am about to go on Medicare and I am studying all the part D programs. The Symbicort I get retails for $265. When I go to see my pulmonologist next month I am going to beg for a few sample inhalers to get
me by until my drug coverage kicks in. Even at that I am going to reach the donut hole
very quickly because this and several other of my meds are all over $100 retail. So I know what you are saying about the cost. It is such a disgrace that the drug companies
have to charge such exorbitant amounts for medication. Some executive is getting rich
off of our need for these meds. If anyone finds out about a new or generic maintenance
inhaler please advise. If I can find out anything I will post the info. Not much choice here,
be broke and be able to breathe is the way it seems. Also, your insurance should not keep you from being able to use one of the drug company programs that saves you money. My insurance allows me to use the card, but I wonder if they even know I am
getting the discount. My prescription is always listed as my copay from my insurance
and then the pharmacy just inputs the info.from the company card. Maybe you could
try to see if that would work.
