Many of you guys seemed interested in the medical alert bracelets that is a usb thumb drive that just installs a program in your computer and you put all your information in there and just upload it to the bracelet. So... In helpfullness to you:

I called my local Walgreens and they said they have some on hand. That they could also order any color or size they have on the website and send it to me at that store if I don't like what they have in store.
I'm going to get mine tomorrow. :-)

There are also lots of phone apps, many free. There are USB pendants and wallet cards in addition to bracelets at some places.

One caveat is to find out before you buy what you can put on the device. Some will accept digital copies of your scans and documents. Some have only a limited format into which you can put a few things like allergies, and you may not be able to put in as much as you want to.

Additionally, you may want to know the format that documents are stored in. Some may be PDF files, which are easily read by most computers.

I will still carry paper copies of anything really important because there may not be a computer available in an ambulance or on the floor of a store.

I probably should carry something. This Asthma is not fun to have for life. I wish they would find a cure for it.

I went to the link, which didn't work, but I was able to search around a little and found the product with reviews! That particular product has good and bad reviews.

The idea of a bracelet is a really good one. One comment on the reviews was that EMTs don't look in wallets, but do look at wrist and neck.

For the real medic alert, just go to www.medicalert.com, if you have money problems they
can set you up with free bracelet or necklace, just call the 800 number they are helpful..
and I don't have any vested interests in them...and should you go oversea medic alert
is the only internationally known brand....

Medic alert bracelets are mostly for people with drug allergies, right?

I have skin allergies but I don't think they are life-threatening unless someone dipped me in formaldehyde. I was just diagnosed with asthma, though, would that warrant a bracelet by itself?

Bracelets are for anyone that has a condition that requires information to be known in the event that you are unconscious and unable to relay the information. I have one for my daughter, it basically says - severe allergies including sulfa and iodine; Epi pen in carrier. My daughter's allergies are not life threatening (yet...hopefully NEVER!) however, in the event it ever gets that way and she unable to tell someone then at least the bracelet can tell others.

I have one around my neck...out of Turlock, California. Kudos to New York State for identifying me as a allergic person and having information on file.

In my experience, I've found that giving my elderly mother her own medical alert buttons at least gave me peace of mind in the moments that I was not able to be there for her. That way, she could get emergency help if she needed, just by pushing a button and nothing else. Anyways, I find every little bit helps. Best of luck to everyone in their search.

I personally love having my medical alert because I'm an (wow this is going to sound pitful)

diabetic, asthmatic, chemotherapy, fibromyalgia, severe allergies, epi pen carrier, arthritis, thyroid, auto immune disease, migraine, depression, aspergers, sight impaired, hearing impaired and more person.

(I am not kidding when I say I'm a rare gem and guinnee pig LOL)

Ever heard the saying "where there is a will there is a way" ? Well its true... Here I have a will to treat others and kid you not, despite all my health problems I still manage to care for my patients.
