PPIs, according to my internist, have no effects on the production of hydrochloric acid, which is the acid that affects vitamin breakdown and assimilation, as well as that of meats.
Pernicious anemia is the result of having insufficient hydrochloric acid and the inability to sufficiently break the protein so that the body can use the intrinsic factor to metabolize Vitamin B12 from
meats.
It's age or an inherited low level of hydrochloric acid productivity that can cause a lack of hydrochloric acid, and one physician recommends that all people over the age of 40 should be taking a hydrochloric acid supplement such as Betaine Hydrochloride.
I reiterate that my gastroenterologist and internist have both confirmed that taking PPIs does not affect the system negatively. Please publish your documented evidence that they do cause a vitamin deficiency.
The most common cause of small bowel bacteria buildup is slowing down of gastric motility (gastric paresis)in Diabetes. Xifaxan is the antibiotic most often prescribed to reduce the problem of excessive small intestine bacteria.
Even the most recent book I've read called "No More Digestive Problems" by Dr. Cynthia M. Yoshida, a Gastroenterologist, indicates that the PPIs are harmless and may provide significant relief for high levels of gastric acid production.
I will use proton pump inhibitors because they are beneficial and cause no problems for me. The best thing I did for myself was to stop the use of refined salt and moved to unrefined Himalayan salt in my diet which has many helpful benefits because of the minerals and large number of trace minerals necessary to the body, almost all of which are completely lacking in refined salt, except for potassium and in some cases iodine added to refined salt. Refined salt is not good for the human body or brain.
