Casey, glad you are cutting back on the drinking. That much will give you fatty liver and can go to cirrhosis, then you get ascites and need a transplant. If you are starting to get a sulfite intolerance, yes it can be acquired, it may be causing the stomach pain.
There are plenty of other chemical intolerances too, so it's great you are keeping track of your food. Look up food journal in the archives (search box at the top of the page). There are other things like "food challenge" after you get a list of possible intolerances. Also, once you get even a short list of foods that seem to be acting as triggers, you can look up the list with the term "food allergy" and find out what chemical(s) are in them in common. That's how I found the other foods in my sulfite list.
When drinking water remember that other fluids count too. You can get yourself overloaded. Cutting down on the other fluids when adding water can be necessary unless you are dehydrated. You have to keep track of EVERYTHING you eat or drink, meds and vitamins and herbs too, while finding your intolerances.
Fred - You could try a good sinus wash. I like Neil Med bottles because they contain enough fluid and you have a little pressure, which you don't have with Netti Pots. I heat the water in the microwave 30 seconds. Only use DISTILLED water. Tap water has been known to contain amoeba which can get into your brain.
Try Mucinex-12- Hour again, once or twice a day after doing the sinus wash. It thins the mucus which allows the cilia in your passages to expel the mucus. It's less toxic than other meds.
