Asthma in humidity

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has experienced or is currently experiencing the same situation as me.

I developed asthma as I entered into my 30s (2012) along with allergies. I never had either growing up. My wife and I used to live in a home that had accumulated mold and dust. We have two small dogs that we have had since 2006 and the other in 2008. I never had any issues with being around them. Around 2012 or so is when I developed allergies and asthma. I remember clearly, cleaning out my closet and then the dust put me in a sneeze attack and I started to wheeze. Since then it progressed.

I did an allergy test and from what the allergy skin test showed, I'm allergic to everything. Foods that I have eaten my whole life I'm supposedly allergic too, I'm allergic to every grass and tree on earth from what the test showed. So I guess I'm supposed to live in a bubble.

The only medication I took was allerclear (Costco Loratadine). I never did allergy shots or took other medications in general because I try to stay away from meds as much as possible. I went to see a pulmonologist and he prescribed singulair but I didn't pick up the prescription because the side effects looked terrible.

I also have anxiety which causes panic attacks. Having that also aggravates my asthma at times.

My main concern over all of that is my asthma in hot / humid weather flares up. I used to go back to Hawaii every year with no issues. However; when I went back last August my asthma was terrible out there. I used my albuterol inhaler more than I usually do at home. At home I rarely use my inhaler.

I can't do a lot of the things that I used to be able to do without any problem (exercising in the heat, going to the tropics, just being in hot weather or humid weather in general) and it's making me in a way depressed. There are a bunch of places that I want to go to with my wife and baby daughter however; I'm afraid that my asthma will act up and I'll be stuck in the car or room with the Air Conditioner. When I was in Hawaii that was the only time that I felt good was when I was in the car or condo with the AC on.

My family is from Hawaii and it's a place that I love and is close to my heart. I mean, who doesn't love Hawaii. Just a few years ago I went to the Caribbean twice and didn't have any problems but that was before my asthma started. My wife wants to take a trip to the Caribbean again and so do I.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? If so, what did you do?

I'd like to do as many things possible like I have done before. I know I can't be a young kid again, but I want to continue taking my wife and now our baby to see some wonderful places around the world.

Hello Mark,
Sorry for being late replying, how you feeling and have you been able to sort out a med to help.

My lungs are playing me up at the moment as i'm in a flare with my lupus etc, so I get lung inflammation which cause my breathing to become harder and makes you gasp for air more, i'm on inhalers but they're not enough and doctors have been straight and told me with the overlapping diseases there's not much they can do.

I look at life like this there's more people in worse states than myself.
