lump on my eye

Hey Amanda,

Isn't that a weird and uncomfortable feeling!? I've never had a "sty" until about 3 or 4 weeks ago, got rid of it with some oil. Then yesterday got another one of the darn things - back to the oil again. I hope you get rid of it quickly - it's so annoying (mine hurts, but I have a low pain tolerance). Get better soon :-P

Hi and welcome to Healingwell This lump can be a few things, maybe you got a foreign matter in it....does it hurt? The integrity of the eye in that section is compromised (my MIL has this) or it can something totally off the wall. The only way to be sure is to see the opthalmologist. Any abnormal lumps really should be checked out my a doctor.

MIL = Mother in law......she has a like a bump on the white of her eye, probably due to some foreign matter that compromised the outer covering. The doctor said there was nothing they could do for it except when it gets irritated use steroid eye drops.

Just wanted to tell you not to wait a week to see a Doctor. You will only have one pair of eyes.

My mother was an Optomitrist, and one day she came home from the office so depressed. One of her patients that day had presented with completely cloudy lens on both eyes. He had been bundlying wheat on his farm and the wind had blown  particles into his eyes. He had called two doctors and they tried to make appointments for later that month. In the meantime his eyes had become scratched. Anything wrong with your eye go to the emergency room.

I am new to this forum and came across it trying to find info on the same type of bump on my eyeball under the top part of my eyelid and saw that one of you seem to be describing the same exact thing. My story is: I have been having re-occuring stys and inflamations to my eye for a couple of months, went to the doc, said they were infections in my eyelid. However, they have since gone away but my eye still felt irritated and sometimes would sting or itch. Now I have noticed this bump. It is on my eyeball under the top eyelid about half way. It is about the size of be-be. I also seem to be having trouble focusing that one eye and becomeing concerned that something else is going on. Did the person with the very similar condition find out from the eye doctor what it was?

Yes, I went to the doctor and found out it was just ANOTHER stye, tHEY ARE NOT ALWAYS easy to see!!! I am a very logical and well rounded person and i swore up and down that bump was on the white of my eye, but it was not visible due to its location. Doctor flipped my eye lid and examined it, said it was a stye. She did nothing extraordinary but say, "put warm compresses on it 2-3 a day, and about 15 mins. each time, if after a week and a half it doesnt go down at alll, u can have it checked out again and we will surgically remove it".


Summarization: It was actually a stye that I mistook as a bump on the white of my eye. Doctor did not do anything usual but realive my worries.

my husband has a lump on each of his eyes in the same place and on the white area of his eye towards the nose.  It is actually on his eye ball and not on the lids.  The lumps are translucent and small, he doesn't have any discomfort from them and nothing is coming out of the lumps, but since I mentioned to him he had 2 lumps on his eyeball he says they are sore now!!!! honestly, he didn't even know they were there until I told him.

anyway, you mentioned that your son had a lump on his eye and had some tests, did he go to his doctor or optition?  was the lump translucent and small?

I think I am more worried that my husband!

if anyone has any advice or might know what the condition is called I would be really grateful

I constantly am getting stye's on my eye lid and they hurt, burn and itch! What causes them?

I am a 28yo male - I developed a rather large lump on my left eyeball which was accompanied by slight pain. I noticed the lump while putting in my contact lenses and immediately went to an ophthalmologist for diagnosis. He gave me an exam and told me that I had a condition called nodular epislceritis. Basically, this means that I have a lump on the outer part of my eyeball. After talking to my doctor and doing some research, I found that this condition is idiopathic (has no underlying disorder that causes it) in 70% of the cases. The other 30% are often caused by a laundry list of disorders including lupus, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, syphilis, HIV, and cancers.

My doctor put me on prednisone drops which is the typical first step with nodular episcleritis. The drug acts to reduce swelling and dissipate the lump. Typical response time is around 2 weeks. After this period of time, I went back for a follow-up where my doctor expressed dismay at the fact that the nodule on my eye had not reduced measurably and that the redness around it had actually grown. At this point, he ordered a CT scan to search for a foreign body such as a piece of a contact lens, a nidus of infection, or other nefarious element. After this test came back clean, he ordered a chest X-ray and a full blood workup.

Needless to day, was a little nervous at this point and was worried that I had some type of cancer. He called me a few days after these tests and told me that all came back normal and that I should add another, non-steroidal drop (Xibrom) to my daily regimen and that he would like to see me in a couple of weeks. At the tail end of the call, he asked me if the swelling had gone down. I told him that it had and that while it was visibly less swollen, that I had developed noticibly more redness and that the area that was once the lump had almost taken on a translucent appearance. He told me that this was a good sign and that he was happy with the report. He ended by telling me that he was comfortable with his diagnosis of nodular episcleritis and that it should be self-limiting. The only catch was that I had the worst case he had ever seen!!

To keep a long story short (too late), the lump on my eye was BIG - I mean, really, really, unnaturally and freakishly huge. I did not experience much discomfort but was alarmed that I was dying from some type of disease. I am now at week 7 of this ordeal and the lump is nearly gone with still a fair amount of "pissed off" veins that are red and inflamed around the area that was raised. My doctor assures me that this is the natural result of the healing process and that the condition will be gone within 3-4 weeks. During this time, I should continue to use the two eye drops daily.

This may not be the condition that you or others with your symptoms are experiencing, but it is nonetheless, an important one to be aware of. It is on the whole self-healing and can range from mild to the ridiculously disgusting -- i.e. my eye. I would encourage you to do some research on it, ask your doctor if it is a possibility, and take a deep breathe while reassuring yourself that it is not something that will end your life. That being said, my first piece of advice is - GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you discover any type of lump on your eye or other part of your body. As people have been saying, you only have one pair of eyes - this is true, but you only have one body that is attached to these eyes and you have to make sure that it is taken care of.

hey guys i also have some story to tell, i can really relate to everyone of u and im relieve that im not the only one hu have multipe styes on my eyes. my story goes like this. a sty first grew in my right upper eyelid and i usually ignore it coz i got occasional stys before and just ignore, it comes off after a day or two anyway, but i didn't realize that this sty is diffrent, it didn't come off, it swell, and after a few days the swelling comes off ,but the lump is still there, and then grows another one beside it, and then a few days later, a lup on my lower eyelid develops and by this i see an opthalmologist, i took antibiotics but nothing happen, it's resistant so my optha suggest that i undergo surgery, i have a total of 5 lumps on my eyes, 4 of them is small but the one on my lower eyelid is really big, it's like a very big eyebag,it's horrible. so after the surgery, my optha told me to do hot compress 4 times a day. well, i can say that it is improving ryt now, it decreased in size,but it still not that proportion with my other eye so im still worried so went bak to my optha and he told me that all that was left to my eyes are capsules and all i have to do is continue with the hot compress, but still it's not coming off, there are still capsules in it. that's why so that pipol wont recognizw it, i always smile so that it will be proportion with my other eye, it will luk just like eyebags,it gets so tiring really, but for those pipol hu know that i have this sty always asked me y it isn't coming off after the surgery, i really dont know wat to tell them. i gets so embarassing. it's been two months after the surgery, and still my lower eyelid isn't normal yet. im not used to this. people used to tell me that im so pretty, but now i think they changed their minds for those hu know my condition. i really think im cursed. im really depressed.. this is like the worst year ever...

Usually with a stye you use warm moist compresses to relieve the swelling and to break it open. And they have otc creams that you can buy at your local pharmacy to help alleviate the pain. But it's best to be seen by a doctor just in case it is not a stye. I've had them in the past too and they are horrible and painful!
