Do you suffer from other lung diseases along with allergies and asthma??

I know I can't be alone with this, please jump in and tell me your experiences with this!

Great information Teri!

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about asthma. No one thought I had it bc I don't wheeze during an attack. Reading the symptoms though, I do cough a lot, have chest tightness, and I'm short of breath almost all the time.

My pulmonologist put me on Advair twice a day. That has helped emmensely. I can breathe finally!!! It's amazing how much better I feel. I am so surprised at how different I feel. Considering I'd never considered asthma as something I'd have, the difference is amazing.

Getting my asthma under control, fixing the arrhythmias, and finally figuring out my sleep problem, I'm getting really close to feeling 100%. Woohoo!!!

As an old friend of yours, I can tell you that I am also a very happy person today, after hearing how well you're doing after your procedure yesterday!! yeah

 

I've had asthma since at least when I was a teenager, but it was never diagnosed until later years, at about 30ish.  I do get attacks of asthma that I wheeze so loud that people a few feet from me, can actually hear it!  Yuck!  Then most recently I've presented a problem to my Dr.'s with just a tightness in my chest~mainly at night, no wheezing but harder to breathe, more SOB (shortness of breath), and no coughing since January 2005.

 

I'm also on Advair and it's been a real big help, and then more recently they've added Combivent, which contains Albuterol along with another medication to aid in breathing.  It has helped somewhat.

Sarcoidosis

 

Another disease that can strike the lungs and is thought to have it's start perhaps with allergens, or a breakdown in your immune system, perhaps brought on by infection is Sarcoidosis.

hi terri

 no you are not alone,i found out about 2 years ago,i have copd(chronic bronchitis and severe asthma) this started about 10 years ago,with a sinus infection. then,i started coughing,it was more like a bark,it was loud and annoying. then,came the cough that was so bad,i would cough up a large amount of white frothy stuff. anyway,i was diagnosed with a mild case of asthma,given albuterol,which did not help. i continued to tell two different doctors about how my asthma ws not under control. i had a sinus surgery,which after i came out of it, i could not breathe good,level under 90 for two days. i tried alzacort,i think,pulmacort,two or three different others. finally a new doctor sent me to have lung function test,which revealed my lungs was only a third of what they should be,and my oxygen level at night was like 66% i was diagnosed with this,along with sleep apnea(after study)and now have a cpap,and oxygen. i take advair 500/50 and spiriva,and i still have my albuterol for emergencies. most attacks happen at waking up(bad coughing) and i cough up white,and green and sometimes bloody looking stuff. i still work,but cannot work doing anything like being on the phone or cashier,or prolonged strenous exercise(i work in daycare)

I'm new here and enjoying reading others post. My mother has severe asthma with allergies and I've been having some kind of illness since September 2005. It was just all of a sudden. After many months of panic attacks, ER visits and thinking I'm dying because no one can find whats wrong with me...I finally got in to a ENT doc and found that I have mild asthma that triggers anxiety episodes. So I'm on Lexapro 5mg (low dose) for anxiety and Advair (100/50) for the asthma. I'm still not 100% certain (denial maybe) that I've got asthma. My anxiety has been nill though since starting the asthma meds. I do not wheeze or cough. There are times I get short of breath and have lots of chest tightness. The only thing my x-ray shows is hyperinflated lungs with one 7mm calcium nodule in my lower left lung. My FEV-1 reading from the breathing test was 82 and 84 the first time. After the meds, I'm getting a reading of 89. I've purchased a peak flow meter for home and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. This will be invaluable data to provide my doc with my relative numbers. I'll take a reading once in the morning and once at night. This should also alert me as to when my levels drop below a norm. Which in turn should help to prevent asthma attacks.

I hope to become cured of this :) don't we all and to contribute more to the boards. Blessings, Bubbles
