my daughter has been ill for the last 3 years with asthma, eczema and she has a blood IgE of 1700.  Nothing much helps at all.  We are on a long list of meds.  Her face is constantly peeling and she has frequent skin infections.  She hasn't left the house much all summer.  I guess I just want to find out what others with these symptoms do to help them be able to enjoy life.  She bathes and moisterizes daily; takes Clarinex and Singular.  Now she just sleeps all the time.  We had her thyroid checked, it's normal.  She is cold all the time....is this normal for people with eczema? or is she just trying to cover up so no one can see her skin?  She's so much fun when she feels good.  This really started when she started 6th grade--I thought puberty but it just keeps getting worse.  If we get eczema under control the asthma flares---just one long roller coaster. confused   Does anyone have any advice to offer?!  I just want to help her.

I was diagnosed with both eczema and asthma, experienced terrible fatigue, and have had a subnormal temperature since I was a child.

I actually have Lyme Disease. That caused my "asthma" and fatigue and my low temperature. I think it is the cause of my eczema, but am only 4 months into the treatment; so all of my symptoms have not yet resolved. I was bit by a tick when I was 7, but it took about 30 years to find out the cause of my problems. Hormonal changes can bring on the symptoms---they certainly did in me when I was 13.

If she does have Lyme, she needs to be treated for it with antibiotics as soon as possible to return to health. The only catch is very few doctors really understand it, and most of the commonly used tests for it produce false negatives. So, you have to find a doctor who knows what they are doing with it or is willing to learn. If you post on the Lyme board, and tell us where you are located we can give you some names and testing information.

Another thought regarding the low temperature and thyroid symptoms but normal blood work--this is known as Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome. Raising her blood temperature can help it. This problem is caused by a T3 thyroid receptor uptake problem at the cellular level; blood tests can't check that. Her body temperature should be consistently below 98.6 if this is the problem.

Before I was diagnosed with Lyme, I received the treatment for this and it definitely helped. This treatment alone resolves these types of symptoms in some people, but again you have to find the right doctor.

Thanks for your reply.  I will have her checked for lyme disease...she could have been bitten by a tick at some point.  However, she was born with eczema--cracked bleeding hands but the asthma didn't kick in until much later.  I'm just so tired of going to doctors and getting a new pill or ointment.  She just doesn't feel well.  She has a tough time at school, not with grades just with allergies either she wheezes or her skin breaks out in hive like rashes, it's awful for her.  She's miserable and embrassed.  We live in Va and have ticks and I know she's been bitten in her life, just not in the last few years.  She has a physical scheduled for next week so I'll have them check. tongue

If they do an ELISA Lyme test---which unfortunately is the most common, it gives more false negatives than any other. Either the IGeneX Western Blot or the Bowen are most likely to be accurate.

Even the CDC says it is supposed to be a clinical diagnosis rather than relying on tests because of the problems with so many of them. Please at least read through the symptoms. If she does have Lyme, you will likely see a lot of symptoms she has that you did not know had a thing to do with Lyme.

I am very sorry to hear about your daughter. I posted a reply on the Chronic uticaria post. I believe this might help your daughter as well. If you look at my postings I have a 2 year old daughter with chronic uticaria, allergic to over 20 food groups and severe eczema. I just want to recommend a couple of things.

1: Get her skin tested for food allergies.
2: The book: "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". This is the specific carbohydrate diet. I put my daughter on it six months ago.
it is supposed to help heal the digestive system.
3: "ABC of allergies, asthma and lupus" The website is the Watercure.com.


My daughters histamine level was 300. A normal child's is 15. Dr Bat actually addresses histamine and what it is and why it is released. I put my daughter on multivitamin and mineral supplements. Water Oz Calcium and magnesium. She still is on the bottle so I actually blend pumpkin seed butter and honey and put that in her bottle. She loves it! It is a complete source of protein and high in fat so that helps her skin tremendously. Water, water water. Dr Bat addresses water with salt and a very powerful antihistamine. Especially children with asthma. Nothing happens overnight. It has been 6 months and my daughter is off of Zyrtec.(on it since 2 months old). Her eczema has cleared up tremendously. I just put her in warm water baths. Use Cetephil soap on her
where needed. Then take Desitin and put that all over her skin. Zinc oxide on her skin works wonderful. Acts as a very strong barrier for any external irritants. Plus all the water, restricted diet, Magnesium(Great for asthma. My husband has it).

It has been a very long two years. My daughter just started sleeping through the night about 2 months ago. Prior to that she was up almost everynight with chronic red, itching skin. I have been to so many doctors. At two months old they wanted to put her on Prednisone and antibiotics. As a mom, I could not do that. So I have been researching books and treatments for two years.

I really hope after two years I can help somebody else. People are not very sympathetic unless they are going through it.

Have you tried essential fatty acid supplements. give that a try. good luck
