Hi... im 18 years old and im confused about what is going on... well this is the story... 2 spring seasons ago i would always have a swollen face... not that swollen but i could see it... i was swollen over the eyes(under the eyebrow) and the tip of my nose on both sides were was swollen also... over my lips on both side would be reddish and would burn so much and under my eyes would burn also... my hole face was discomfort for the hole season of spring...  waking up and when i woke up i would be swollen for about 1 hour or so and had trouble going to school... i felt very bad and thought i was tired but i wasnt tired just felt bad...then mid may came and i became ok... the whole thing became to unswell and end juin it was just a little bit of the symptons and in july i was perfect... I had 2 cats and 1 ferret witch i were really allergic to... so we gave them away. Then after winter came spring again...last year... my eyes were swollen again and my nose also and it still burned (mostly when i went to friends house with animals or carpet)... I got allergy test i forgot the exact results but i was really really allergic to pollen and somewhat to animals and not that much to food... doctor told me to get a sheet anti-acaraien(french) i dont know what it is in english but its those microscopic germs that r everywhere mostly in carpet and beds... so i got one and the symptoms seemed to get better... so basically my house is anti allergic because we dont have carpet , pets  and my bed is covered with the sheet. everytime i go to friends house... just the exposure to sheets that not been washed my face just starts to burn immidiatly... of when im exposed(being 5 feet away) to cigarette smoke my face starts to burn (intense burn that wont stop above lips and under eyes) and a lil bit a swelling but not that much... does anyone know what i have to do to make it stop burning? or something i can do to eleminate the hole thing... it would be really thankful and useful for me... thank you

Hi and welcome to Healingwell :) Allergies can manifest themselves in many different ways. It sounds like this is your bodies way of coping with them. Have you tried any over the counter medications such as Benedryl? It's great that you got a hypoallergenic sheet for your bed, but what also may help is an air purifier for your bedroom, curtains or blinds should be washed quite frequently, keep your windows closed, don't let any dust settle in your bedroom, cover you pillow with an hypoallergenic pillow case. The reason I mostly focus on the bedroom is because we spend so much time in there and while we are sleeping, if somethin is irritating us, since we are asleep; normally don't move.

When you go to a friends house, I'm assuming you spend the night? If you are, you should explain to your friend(s) what severe allergies you have to certain things. And see if they can wash those sheets or whatever before you can spend the night. If they won't do that for you, have them stay at your place. A sleep over is not worth the discomfort. If you find yourself in a situation where there is no choice, bring some allergy meds along.

To help with the burn, try using Aveeno cream or any other cortisone cream. Aveeno is more gentle. Avoid heavy lotions and use a cold wash cloth.

Sherry...this is very excellent information.  I might add to use HOT water on all your sheets and pillow cases.  They also recommend for clothing, underwear, etc.  Remember the mite covers have to be laundered every six months (according to the manufacturer's) directions. 

If possible you might see a dermatologist (skin doctor) to find out if you might have arosea (spelling?)  which causes redness in the face and a feeling of warmth but is not connected to asthma and allergies.

I thought of Rosacea too because the pattern is similiar, but as far as I know, Rosacea doesn't cause swelling. Just redness and heat. At least with my Rosacea, nothing has swelled on me (yet!). It sounds like an allergic reaction to something. Pollen is a notorious allergen and if most you allergies are nasal, your nasal passages can become swelled which in turn can make you feel and look puffy. Of course to reduce redness in that area, there are gentle cleaners that help lighten and ease the redness such as Euchrin. The Euchrin cream also helps take the burn out.

thanks for all the information.... i appreciate it... i have never tried benadryl while it was happening but now i am taking some and i feel good when i take them... i dont think i have rosacea because i checked out some information on it and its redness on cheecks and forehead which is not my case... me its actually only at 1 spots... on both side of my upper lip... where people usually grow mustach... and nowhere else... and eyes get all weird and a lil swollen... ive seen a doctor for it once and gave me a emo cort cream hydrocortisone(in french) and it didnt seem to work but i still have some left i will try putting some and see what it does... thanks you very much!!

If it's just under your nose then I would say it's allergies. Are you on any medications for your allergies such as Allegra, Flonase or Nasonex? Also too they make eye drops for allergies called Pantenol. I use that on occasion because my eyes get puffy from allergies not to mention they burn something fierce. The benedryl will also help take the swelling down because you are having a histamine reaction to the allergens. Benedryl is a great antihistamine. I tried it a few times myself but boy did it make me sleepy!

i used to take nasonex but now its empty since a long time... im going to doctors in 2 days and ima get myself check out a-z ...this morning i woke up and my nose was kinda swollen and i took 2 benadryls and it put the swelling down a bit... something i remember about this is when i watched TV in my bedroom ... i was laying on the left side and when id feel my nose it would be swollen on the left side... and when i would go take a walk outside my nose would kinda become less swollen but was still kinda and when id get back in it would become more swollen again..

yeah but my nose isnt red and it gets swollen up when im exposed to my allergies...... and where im red its not swollen its just red like a sunburn (you cant see red veins) and burns like hell...
