adult aquired asthma??

hello everyone... i sm new to this.. i hove posted on other threads but i have an issue with asthma... i am an ex ssmoker ( i havent smoked in over 6 months) i was almost at a pack a day.. i am over weight for my height but now a days who isnt?? lol.. i have an anxiety disorder and my mom calls me a hypercondriac ( i think thats how u spell it, lmao).. but over the weekend i just couldnt breath.. my chest was heavy, couldnt take deep breaths.. and every time i did try to take a dep breath my rib cage hurted.. like right up onder my breast. so i immediatley went into panic mode thinking that i was gonna die. i went to the er ( by ambulance) nad they did a chest exray and said that it was clear but i do have asthma.. im like ***.... how did i get this i never had it as a child . and how did it just come on out of the blue??? so now im like being that i am 27 over weight there must be another reason why i cant breath.. even going up and down the steps i have to sit down.... they have me on prednisone for 3 days, i actually just took my last pill an hour ago and i feel an intsy wintsy bit better but nothing major... they have me on albuterol and they gave me advair but its so expensive and my insurance just kicked in today... ( thank God).  the albuteerol makes me jittery and nervous and the prednisone makes me tired as all hell.. or maybe its the zanax the gave me too.. please help me someone., i think i am dying for real.... can someone give me a littl einput on the situation?? thank you      scare2death

Hello, scaredtodeath! cool message board name. Now that your insurance has kicked in you might want to get a good primary care doctor (pcp) who can refer you to a allergy/asthma doctor. You can develop allergies at any age and that could've triggered your asthma, plus the speialist can get you on some better meds, Xopenex is a lot better (no shaking) than albuterol. Good luck. I've had asthma all my life it can be a bummer sometimes.

 i developed asthma when i ws 39. it started however,with allergies. i could not get it under control,and now,i have severe asthma,along with copd.(chronic broncitis) i take advair 500,and spiriva.

  my state kicked me off the insurance,even though i work,advair and spiriva are way over a hundred dollars.,but the companies that make them,give them free,if you call them and submit applications,so good there.

the meds help,but i still have problems,and only a third of lung function.

I just read a post about infectious asthma on here, you may want to read it and reserach it. I havne't yet, but it sure made sense. I have also done a research about Churgs Strausse disease, you may want to look that up and check that too, for all those who have adult onset asthma. I too started with it at about 38, I will be 50 in a few months. I also was getting sick every month. I had four sinus surgeries from 1991-200. It didn't help. I now have an autoimmune disease which they do not know what it is yet. I cannot take advair because it upsets my stomach. I am on serevent and Qvar, albuterol inhaler and liguid albuterol. Sadly it isn't helping the last couple of month. So back to the doc. My pulmonary doc only wanted to do a sleep test, he felt this was the cause and if your heavy they really think it's the problem. I know have problems with my throat and neck, so I will be posting a question if anyone has problems with using in halers for years with their throat and neck.
But check into the infectious asthma. go to yahoo go under groups and do a search for infectious asthma.
