heater that doesn't cause itching, burning, swelling?

hello everyone.
during the last couple of days something was wrong with my eyes they burnt and tickled and were swollen. i did not put the heater on for 1 week and th e symptoms went away.. and yesterday night i turned on the heater(25 degrees) just to test if it was really the cause and my eyes started itching / burning / swelling and when i woke up i was really swollen and eyes were really irritated and i kept coughing...and as the day goes by my as r unswellin and burning and iching less but i still cough a little bit. the temperature of the apartment is independent... like every room has its heater controller...so i wasnt in my room the during 2 hours and it gets better... so it would be thankful if someone knew a little bit about this ... thanks alot. (i have allergies to pollen, dust mites, perfums, animals, dust)

HI Rowdy--

Im assuming you are referring to the "heater" as the furnace, right? I have 2-different suggestions for you. The easier of the two would be change your furnace filter. I would recommend buying one with an allergen filter. You will have to spend a little more money but it will be worth it because of your allergy situation. My next suggestion would be having the duct work cleaned in your apartment. It seems to me that you are having really bad allergies when the furnace is running. That leaves me to believe you may have some allergens in the duct work. Hopefully after either of the suggestions you will find relief. Good Luck! Keep us posted and how it goes.

I'm not quite sure about the heating system you are referring to but I just wanted to add that if it's like a space heater, when was the last time you cleaned it out? If you are allergic to dust, dust can accumulate on the heating coils and make your allergies 10xs worse.

A lot of things can get stired up in the air when the heater/furnance is On. Plus for your apartment you should get a carbon dioxide detector (nighthawk), Could be CO is making you sick. Just a suggestion. Hope you'll feel better soon.

well its like these normal electric heaters in my apartment, something like this...like baseboard heater ... like they at the bottom right above floor and they white... actually its the first times they work because the block just got finished building this summer ... and something i could add is when i go the the gym... (i think they're are "air climatisée" or climate air that push colder air coming out from things and every time im there my face swells a bit and eyes get like DRY and swollen its kinda weird anyways ima see doctor about this. thanks a-lot

he gave me this patanol eye drops, nasonex nose spray, and this red and orange flovent inhaler. he said its supposer to become less swollen and eyes suposed to hurt less in morning... i hope it will work... he said if it doesnt u will have to get allergy shots at hospital for years ...

Good luck on the new meds. Just a note on the Pantenol - you may not get this but I did when I used it - after using it for a while, it may feel like you have a foreign object in your eye though you really don't. I stopped using it for that reason but that is an uncommon side effect of this eye drop. Let us know how it goes.

hello... so the medications are going so so... my nose is alot less swollen... the part right above nostrils on the both sides of nose bone...n nose is less blocked. my eyes feel a a little better... yesterday night i was exposed to hot heat system in the car it was bad ,eyes began feeling real bad n swollen... and it was like this for 24hours and today during the day i had trouble with my vision(from more less far viewing) i used alot of patanol drops to clear it. right now they are perfect .. maybe a little bit swollen ..same a nose maybe a little.. but way better than before... anyways ima continue these meds until i get my allergiste rendez vous. i cannot stand taking these medications all my life and i still get allergie reactions when im exposer to heating systems or whatever. so im going to ask allergist for allergy shots. what do you people think i shud do?
