Allergy to cold

Has anyone ever had this happen:

exposure to cold like 60 degrees F or so, skin gets red, itchy, hives, then dizzyness sets in, confusion, numbness, fainting, then exteme sleepiness.

I personally would never have thought that 60 degrees is cold, so my first thought would be that the temp. of 60 degrees alone may not be your problem.  That, of course, is just my guess and I am not a Doctor.  Does this happen when you are outside all the time?  I've heard of 2 things weather-wise in allergy reactions.

One is from hypothermic temperatures, especially when swimming in the cold water, but it is fairly rare.

The second is an allergy to the sun, which does also affect some people.

My suggestion would be to definitely sit down and discuss this with your Dr.!~and see what he/or she thinks.

I have had the swimming allergy occur but I also have had the allergy occur from being outside. I know 60 is not cold, I hate to think what would happen if I lived in a cold climate. I live in southeast Texas where it is almost tropical much of the time. In the winter, if I go outside I must bundle up and wear gloves, but even so my face and mouth become numb and I even have trouble using my hands.

This is one of the sites that I reviewed while trying to find an answer for you. I'm not sure how much it'll help you, but I still highly recommend you getting this checked out by a Dr. before it gets any worse!

i don't know if you can be allergic to cold, but i think so. I get severe shortness of breath in cold weather. i also have lots of food and pollen allergies. i don't get hives or itchiness though.

i posted a similar question about this and got some replies on the 3rd page of this thread. my question was "can you be allergic to cold?"

:-)  Sailgirl! I honestly cannot say that has happen to me. My skin, doesn't like the sun I know that. I itch from the sun. But, haven't suffered the other syptoms your describing. My best, advice would be to track all the syptoms in a journal daily. Then bring the journal to your doctor, and discuss all of it with the doctor. Best of luck to you.

I live in southwest louisiana and three years ago come march I started breaking out in hives due to the "cold" aoout 65 degrees or below and I cant swim or within 10 min. or less I breakout also. antihistimines and steriods dont work. The only thing I have found to work is wearing a lot of clothes or in the winter scarves beanies or ski mask. I get them from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. I was wondering if you had tried any prouducts such as histerx or any other online natural cures. I am about to start buying such products and was wondering if there any one knows if they really work. my e-mail add. is [email protected] if you know any cure please let me know. I will post my results for the products that I try to fix my hives. hope yours go away for good, good luck
