pillow allergies??

i just found out my matress is 'pillow top' by mayfair... can it play a role with my allergies?

so last week my mom bought me this hypoallergic pillow she said she bought at 8dollars. everytime id sleep on it, my eyes would feel irritated, dry, and sumtimes cry(i laso have dust mites allergies). yesterday night wat i did is i took some of my clothing and used it as a pillow... and then went on some dust mite allergy tipes and told me to put sheets and everything in freezer for 1 hour every day. so i did it. when i went to sleep, for the 1st time i didnt have swelling eyes, swelling nose, irritated, red, and crying eyes, but they felt kinda dry at some times. im sur im allergique to the pillow she bought, i mean real hypoallergic pillows r 100$+... i also had this 'douillette', it is what u cover yourself with when you sleep... it had some kind of material in it that would make my eyes irritated and red so bad. what might i be allergic to??

So Sorry your having a rough time right now...
Did your mom but these pillows at a store or on-line?
Sometimes if you buy pillows at stores many other people might have touched them or
they could've been on the shelves so long and have collected dust.
If possible have your mom take those pillows back.
Check out some on-line allergy free products, your allergy doctor might have a catalogue ffrom which you could buy stuff.
My doctor even recommended some local allergy product stores

she said she bought it in a store ... it was surrrounded by a plastic thing. and when the pillow got home it went into this anti dust mite thing that surrounds the pillow... but still made my eyes bad ,...

I have problems with pillows too. I also have problems with comforters.

No down feathers, nothing fluffy that contains dust, etc. I've learned that there are matresses and pillows/covers made with a mix of latex and foam that i avoid since i have a latex allergy. I can also sometimes smell a chemical on new pillows and matresses.

Hate to say it but people take those plastic bags off the pillows all the time.
I've witnessed kids doing it and moms not caring.
With my daughter having a heart condition I always ask if they have pillows in the back that have not been touched, because strep throat can be very very dangerous for my daughter!!
I can't even buy stuffed toys from wal-mart unless I see the person about to put it on the self from the back!!!

Also my allergy doctor told me to look for specific wording on the packages for the best quailty, I just cannot remember it right now , sorry.

Rowdy87: It sounds like you have a severe allergy to dush mites. Millions of dust mites are contained in pillows, mattresses, blanklets, sheets, etc. To protect yourself, you need to have a pillowcase which has a zipper/enclosure to seal the pillow. Then you simply put a 100% cotton pillow case in the dryer for about 10 minutes which kills dust mites (dust mites are killed by heat, not cold). Also, your mattress should also be encased (not like a fitted sheet because when you lie on the mattress, the body weight will simply push the mattress releasing the dust mites from the sides and bottom into the air). If you encase the pillow & mattress and put linens in dryer for 10 min before going to bed, you'll see a big difference. Contact your local lung association and they will happily forward info to you.

i have put anti dust mites sheets around my matress and pillow... but my pillow isnt cotton... its some hypo allergique white stuff...

RoWdy87: Sorry, I meant to say it's best to use a 100% cotton pillowcase. Is your pillow and mattress completely encased? If they aren't, you're not protected. Dust mites are found everywhere, even on our skin (they eat our dry, dead skin). Drapes have a high degree of dust mites mainly because most people to do take them down on a routine basis and laundry them.

If you use an MDI (albuterold "puffer"), be sure to use it with a spacer as you lose about 40% of your med w/o one. Hope you have a good night's sleep tonight.
