Cough with alot of mucous in the morning and evening?

I am having trouble with alot of colored mucous being brought up by coughing each morning and each night. What do people think? could it be an infection? once I take my albuterol inhaler it helps. I bring up alot of dark gray and yellow mucous from my lungs, and my chest burns afterwards? need advice and suggestions please. Thankyou, Brandi.

Hi Brandi. To me it sounds like an infection especially if you are coughing up colored mucous. Have you gone to the doctors for it? In my opinion, it sounds like it could be bronchitis or pneumonia but you don't cough at ALL during the day? Just in the morning and night?

If you have not seen a doc, I would go asap. genaraly when there is color there is an infection or something serious. I hope ypu get to feeling better. K

Colored mucous is definitely a sign of infection. Could be anything from sinus drainage to pneumonia. Anyone w/asthma needs to seek medical tx asap since an infection can cause the airways to become inflammed (therefore, setting off asthma problems). Good luck & hope you feel better soon!

Thankyou, all for the response. Today I have been coughing throughout the day. Bringing up colored mocous still. Last winter I had bronchitis a few times. And pneumonia a few times last year that landed me in the emergency room from vomiting Blood. I got a flu shot last year. But, seem to cough like this every winter. So, I m guessing its infection. Coughing woke me up last night, but albuterol inhaler stoped the coughing. Now I have been coughing up stuff this afternoon. Help.

Hi, If it is an infection-the sooner you can get on antibiotics the better.  I would call the doctor and tell them you have yellow plegm so they will see you immediately.

I agree that you should get your doctor to check you over and treat you for any infection. Sometimes it helps to clear your airways of mucous for twenty minutes or so before you go to bed - try a "huffing" process rather than coughing all of the time, taking deep breaths in between. When you can't suppress it any longer, you should be able to cough up any mucous more easily.

sad Thankyou, everyone for responding. Doc, says its an infection. I am being treated. I had some neb treatments at the doctors office caus i was in the middle of an cough attack when at the doc's office. Anyhow, had bad time today, wheeze,chest tightness, hard to get air in and out. Better tonight though. Thankyou all I appreciate it lots! Brandi.

younglady94: If you experience mucous a lot of the time, you may want to ask your MD to Rx something called a Flutter (looks like a funny whistle) or an occupella (spelling not correct) which looks something like when a balloon is first being blown up. Both devices are excellent in breaking up mucous and easy to use ... simply blow into the devices. By blowing into the device, it sends vibrations into the lungs and therefore loosens mucous and allows pts to cough and expel mucous. These devices are recommended for use w/all COPD. My sister has bronchiolitis and this has helped her tremendously. Good luck on clearing your infection and hope you feel better soon.
