sinus pressure remedy?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I am usually posting in the migraine/headache forum, but thought you guys might have some insight into this one. Because of my migraines, I"m unable to to take any (prescription or otc) medication for allergies, sinus, etc. Right now I have horrible sinus pressure...it is even making my teeth hurt! Have been trying nasal spray, doesn't seem to help. Does anyone know of a natural remedy to relieve sinus pressure?

P.S. Have heard of the neti pot, but don't have the budget to go out and get one right now.

Hi :) Welcome to the Allergy/Asthma side of the boards! What happens with your migraines if you were to take an allergy med such as Clariten or Allegra? I do have to say that sinus headaches are miserable! And yes, I can actually compare them to migraines unfortunately :( But I'm sort of at a loss because if you can't take anything for your sinuses, it leaves things highly limited. A few things come to mind though, you can try using steam - either from one of those personal facial pots, sticking your head over a bowl of hot water with a towel wrapped around your head and bowl, or just sitting in a bathroom with a hot shower running. You can also try saline nose sprays. Hmm - maybe you can try a Vicks nasal inhaler? Sorry I can't be more of a help :(

I think Sherry has given you a lot of good ideas.  The only other thing I might add is putting some cold compresses on your forehead and nose area.  Just crush some ice in a plastic baggie and cover it in a wash cloth or something soft.  I know that feeling when your teeth hurt.

I have used a heating pad at times also, but you have to be careful and not keep it on too long.  That's easy to do for me because it feels so comforting and I never know if it's actually helping or not.

you might try a saline nose spray kind of like the stuff in the neti pot it is cheap. it helps clean the allergins and stuff out of my nose. I use it when I get a sinus infection which is pretty often. hope it helps good luck

Allergies can actually cause migraine headaches, so you might consider getting tested for allergies to see if there is anything specific you need to be avoiding to improve your situation.

Another thing that I find very helpful is a homeopathic nasal gel called Zicam. There are a couple of products that Zicam makes, one for allergies and one for colds. Use whichever one you feel is appropriate to your situation.

Inhaling Vicks is a great idea also, especially with steam - the steam seems to make it go into the nose better and get things opened up.
