Chest Tightness

I have only had asthma for a year now and have not had a full blown attack yet (knock on wood) I usually just get the early warning signs and Im able to take my albuterol and kick it in the butt before anything happens.

Last night I started to have chest tightness and some shortness of breath. I used my inhaler and it eased it up to where I was able to go to sleep. This morning when I woke up I was fine for a lil but then I started to feel the samething and once again took my med. It relieved the chest tightness and shortness of breath but then my chest just hurt. Then a few hours later it all happened again and now my chest is just hurting again. Is this like a mild attack or what?

hi latina-chic 84...I agree with razzle that you may have a chest infection which may need antibiotics ....your relievers will not solve the underlying lung inflammation problem...dont worry your dr should give the something to solve this problem.It is difficult sometimes to recognise the difference between an asthma attack and the symptoms of an infection because both make us feel ill worried and unsettled...so relax if you can and go to your dr...be well and happy...hugs grooveyx

Yes I do have a peak flow meter and my readings were a lil lower than normal.

I thought about it being an infection but the way it came and went makes me wonder. I had problems with that day and night and then didnt have any problems the next day. It has come and gone twice since then but didnt last long. I used my albuterol inhaler when I felt it. Im supposed to take 1-2 puffs but they only way to get it to ease up was to take 3-4puffs. I do have a cough but that normal for me if it gets to bad I can take my inhaler and it usually helps the coughing.
