Hi there! I'm new to the boards, so please excuse me if I seem a bit lost.
Just some background: My very closest friend Wendy has never been too lucky healthwise. To list all her problems would take an hour to type out, and sometimes I have trouble understanding them myself! However, we are closer to each other than to our own family, so I am basically her main support system(hence why I joined this forum). She recently moved in with me as she cannot live alone, so we both have had to adjust. She is currently on 4 different meds and an inhaler, all of which she is very familiar with and doesn't need my help with. For the past 6 or 7 months she's been in relatively good health up until now. It's the latest bit of info we've received that I need help with. I just feel a bit overwhelmed and would like to hear some outsider suggestions and opinions.
Wendy just recently began having problems with her esophogus, throat, and digestive system. She was also breaking out in some small rashes. Among other things, she was tested for certain allergies she may have developed. It was revealed that she is allergic to soy, wheat and corn. The wheat allergy is not quite as severe, but her doctor is saying we should still try to eliminate it from her diet as much as possible.
To the point: I was hoping that some of you may be able to help with the dietary decisions we'll be making. We do plan on seeing a doctor to discuss a proper diet, but again, I would like to hear some outsider points, especially considering that they are three allergies that seem to be in nearly all foods! What kinds of foods, meals, ingredients, etc are available to us in general? Another problem is, while she has all these problems, up until now, she's been able to have a pretty normal diet. And she LOVES junk food, despite that fact that we've all told her that the more she eats, the more it hurts her. She's very upset by all this, and is insisting that it's just not worth it to not be able to eat anything she likes. I'm not sure how to handle this. I want her to realize that these dietary changes NEED to be made, but she seems resistant and in denial of the possible consequences. Your help would be appreciated. And sorry for the long post!
