My son is 10 years old and previously would only get Asthmatic in the fall and when he got a chest cold.  However, this year he has been struggling all year.  He is currently only using his Albuterol inhaler because of the side affects of Singulair (feelings of sadness) and Qvar (growth stunt reports).  Does anyone have any Success stories of alternative methods of treatment or Medicines that have given true continous relief?  Really, At this point anything would be helpful...

Has your son ever been tested for allergies? Allergies are notorious for setting off asthma symptoms and this year is a very bad year for allergies. My son has seasonal asthma and he has to take an allergy med or he gets into full blown asthma episodes.

Hi Wellcare,
If your son is using the albuterol often, it is important for him to see a good allergy/asthma doctor. The albuterol only treats the symptoms. Your son needs to be on other meds that will relieve the inflammation that is the underlying cause of his breathing problems.
This is extremely important. If your child is seeing a doctor who is just prescribing albuterol, you need to consider another doctor. (I'm assuming here that the asthma is fairly severe/troublesome.)

Oops, I didn't see that you've already used qvar. Still, if his asthma is bad enough, the side effects of steroid inhalers is outweighed by the improved lung function that your child can achieve as a result of its use. Asthma can be a life threatening condition, and layers of inflammation that are untreated can lead to an asthma attack that is hard to control.
I'm not a doctor, but an an asthmatic, and so am speaking from personal experience.

Was is Advair Shuvvykins - purple circular looking thing? My friends daughter was on that for a while too for seasonal allergic asthma and it worked extremely well for her.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I actually found several testimonies on Apple Cider Vinegar and local Honey. It's only been 2 days, but he hasn't awakened in the night needing his inhaler, which is great! We will most likely do it for another two weeks and then see an allergist if he doesn't improve greatly. I appreciate all of the replies. Thanks again!
