Ever since I went away to school, I've had trouble breathing. I could definitely tell that I had allergies because I've had issues with allergies before. This was a lot worse though. And something else happened. My chest would almost always feel tight, and I would have SOB especially when exposed to smoke, or when working out, walking up the stairs to my room or something like that.
I thought that it might just be allergies to something at school, so I just dealt. Then I came home and I realized that I wasn't any better.
Today, I went into the doctor. Just a regular ped, but it was the best I could do on short notice. The doctor said that I definitely have allergies, my nose looked extremely inflamed and irritated. She said that she didn't hear any wheezing, but because of what I had told her, gave me an Albuterol treatment while in the office, and seeing that it helped said that asthma is a definite possibility.
She told me to take Zyrtec once a day, and also prescribed an inhaler, Ventolin. She said to use the Ventolin when I feel it's needed, plus at bedtime because I've been waking up unable to breathe correctly in the middle of the night. She also said that if I'm taking the Ventolin more than about 3 or 4 times a day to call and she'll get me set up with a controller...and of course, she wants to see me when I'm home again.
Does this sound about right?
