Post Nasal Drip-Allergies?

Hello - my husband has been having horrendous post nasal drip for years now. He's really quite miserable with it. He's gone to allergists, ENTs, etc., but with no relief. He's been on amoxycilin (for possible sinusitis, and nasacort. Most recently he went to an urgent care, thinking it was another sinus infection, but since his discharge is clear, he was told it was allergies. I guess my question is - is continuous post nasal drip (sometimes very thick) an allergy sign? Can this go on for years and years? Anybody out there have experience with this and come up with an effective treatment?

I also wondered if it could be sulfite-related - he has stopped his nightly glass of wine and no longer snores, but his PND continues.

PND is horrible. I have suffered with it for years. I found that by continually taking allergy meds along with a saline nose spray and gargling salt water to be effective. He can also use a Netti Pot to help clear his sinuses. I have not used the Netti Pot myself but my best friend uses it with some success. Has he had allergy testing? Is he on any allergy meds? And yes, PND is the typical symptom of allergies. Does he smoke?

He has had allergy testing, I can't recall what, other than ragweed, he was allergic to.  He has the PND year-round.  He currently uses nasacort.  He does not smoke.  I can't get him to use one of those nasal irrigation thingies he can't stand the thought of water up the nose.  (Wuss!!)   Relief just seems so hopeless.  I know there are lots worse things a person can have other than PND, but when it's chronic and has gone on for years, it does get to be frustrating.  He is not a fan of taking drugs, so I was also hoping somebody has had success with supplements of some sort.  What allergy meds do you take, and which have the least side-effects?  Thanks for your suggestions!

I take Zyrtec and Singulair. The Zrytec, I take at night because it causes drowsiness and until your body gets used to it, it can cause drowsiness or sluggishness during the next day as well. But Allegra is a good med and has no side effects. They sell it over the counter now.

My husband hates taking pills too but he breaks down every now and then and takes Allegra. But it has to be to the point where he is literally gagging on his PND.

I have agree on the Netti pot though! I hate the thought of pouring water into my nose as well :)

Yes, PND is annoying and frustrating. I notice though that if I increase my water consumption, the PND is not as thick or annoying. Also, this may sound strange, but when my PND acts up, I chew Polar Ice Extra gum. For some reason, it opens my sinus cavity. The same goes for Altoids.

Try fishermen's friends, it has capsasion in it and it opens up your sinuses.
I use fine mist sprayers for my irrigation. Simply saline is a good one. They make a hypotonic solution that can dry it up.

It's a terrible allergy season here in the southeast US. I've been back on my Advair since early March, with no end in sight.
