At the age of 17 I had my first chest pain...over the years I've been diagnosed with hiatus hernia, IBS and 10 years ago allergies.  When I eat eggs, chocolate, chicken etc.. to name a few that I get this extremely hurtful and debilitating pain that is on the left side of my breast or in the center.  I've had environmental and food allergies tested and even with elimination I continue to get these pains.  I've taken a stress test, barium swallow, had the scope..just to name a few. I take an antidepresent to keep everything calm in hopes that this will emilminate the pain... I beilved it was helping until a few weeks ago when I had the pain once again.  Having this pain is terrifying, I've sat upright and still for 22 hours...not able to move because the pain worsens.  I'm now 50 and live in fear daily.  My son who is 22 also has the same pain and food intolerances. If anyone has experienced anything similar I would appreciate hearing from you. All comments welcome.

The hiatial hernia could be causing the increase pains. Ask your doctor to refer you to an gastroenterologist for a pH test and manometry test.

Hi Joy,

I waiting for an appointment date to see a gastroenterologist..(a new one) my doctor thought it might be a good idea to see someone once again (it's been 8 years) and see if there were any changes in the esophagus and any news on new procedures.  I'll be sure to mention your suggestions.  Thank you kindly! much appreciated.

Joy is right. It's time for some fresh testing of that hernia.

Also start keeping avoid, complete food log/journal. It's likely you have more than 1 cause of your distress.

That should have read keeping a good, complete log.
