Allergy/Asthma to cats, any tips?

Hi all, I am new here and desperate for some help.
I have had my cats for 4 years, even volunteered at a shelter with 10 cats for a whole year. Nothing ever bothered me. All the sudden, and I mean out of the blue, I go jogging (which i did a lot with no problem) and I come home with a bad case of asthma attack. I go to allergist, they test me, and I test positive for all Maryland pollens/hays... and cats and birds. I can not give up my cats, I am doing allergy shots (6 months so far), taking allegra, nasonex, singulair ( montelukast ) every single day, and i have proair to use as needed. My chest feels tight in a daily basis. I was put on Dulera (for 2 weeks, did not help), I am now on Symbicort first week was great (I had a severe cold though), week 2 got chest issues 3 times a week, week 3 (this week), i am back to daily issues... I really am worried. To be honest the chest tightness is very very mild but uncomfortable feeling. Should I be worried? I don't want to be one of those sad old ladies carrying an oxygen tank everywhere in the future. I am 30 by the way.

Keep seeing the allergist. It takes more than 6 months for the shots to build up to your top tolerance level.

You might have to add another allergen to the shots. I had to add grass a few years ago. Allergies can come and go.

Are you taking the shots weekly? My allergist has me doing weekly during peak season for my particular allergies. I can get away with bi-weekly or monthly the rest of the year.

Were you also tested for food allergies? They can contribute to symptoms.

Keep a journal with the treatments you are taking, foods, drinks, what pollens you may notice, your symptoms, whether symptoms get worse after eating, going outside ... It can help your allergist and you diagnose your problems.

One winter, my allergies were bad w/housecat, but so was a problem with dust mites. When illness surrounded us, I let the house go. All I had to do was wash the sheets once a week again. Had my husband vacuum . I did buy an air purifier to use in the house (the ion thing). It was expensive, but I thought I had asthma, lung problems.
My hubby brushes the cat with a wire brush and that helps.
After being outside, they say we bring in allergens on our hair, clothes. I even had to wash my hair after being outside, or wash my hubby's workclothes after mowing. It all adds up!

This allergy usually occurs because of the toxins in the environment aside from the dusts and animals. To be toxic-free, you can go natural and use natural products. Hope it helps.

It would help to confine your cats in one area of the house where you can concentrate your air purifier and cleaning efforts. Use a high-grade HEPA vacuum cleaner to clean your carpets, walls, furniture, etc. at least twice a week and a HEPA air filter to purify the air. You can also try cleaning your home using vapor steam cleaner.
