Question about developing food allergies as an adult...

A few months ago I had hives on my lip and face, itchy and red palms and feet, and a red rash that went up my arms. This occured after eating crab soup. I believe it was an allergic reaction to crab and have recently gotten tested for shellfish allergies (results not in yet). The real problem for me right now, though, is that I am afraid to eat at all. I think I'll have an anaphylactic reaction to something.

Do adults suddenly develop lots of food allergies? I know that happens with shellfish. I'm driving myself crazy!

Please help.

Yes, allergies....airborne or food, can develop as adults. I myself have never been allergic to strawberries until about 2 years ago. I broke out in red blotches all over after having strawberries. Shell fish are notorious for causing allergies in children and adult alike but it shouldn't make you afraid to eat. We need food to survive but just make sure until your results are in to avoid seafood and shell fish and Iodine.
