Allergies

I have a question for anyone out there who might know more than me. :)

Last fall, when I transferred to a school in east TX, I developed horrible allergies. I was tired /all/ the time, and it never really seemed to let up. At the time, I was a vocal performance major (a fancy way of saying I was a singer), and it seriously interferred with my ability to do well in this area. I ended up transferring over it, and eventually ended up north of Dallas. This summer, it seemed like things were getting better, and this fall my allergies are hardly noticable.

My voice teacher at this new school suggested that I get checked for asthma because of some probably in our lesson, but I'm a little reluctant to go back to a doctor at this point. I went to the campus doctor to get checked for diabetes because I was having weird vision problems and it was a horrible ordeal. They treated me like I was some sort of nutcase. :P Maybe I am, but I don't really see what the harm is in just doing the test to make me feel better, rather than just making me feel stupid. But nevermind.

The thing is, I don't really have the wheezy part that I have heard described. Or if I do, I don't generally notice it. I do have congestion pretty badly most of the time that just doesn't go away, and sometimes, I feel like I just can't get a good deep breath, but it doesn't hurt, and it's really only uncomfortable if I try to sing while this is going on. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't even notice it, and it definitely makes it where I can't hold a pitch. :/ If you can't get good breath support, your pitch just goes flat, no matter how hard you try. Is a doctor going to ridicule me again if go in to discuss this situation? I don't really like being made to feel like a hyperchondriac. Even if I am one. XD
