HI All--

I have allergies, asthma, and sinus problems. I have a hard time with the transition of weather. Id say from Fall to Winter and Winter to Spring are the worst for me. I get reoccuring sinus infections throughout the whole season. I am going on my second infection for this season already. I usually take Ketek and it clears it up really well. I know using antibiotics often isnt necessarily a good thing. Is there anything I can do to help prevent so many sinus infections from occuring?? Please help...I am sick of having so many sinus infections!

P.S. In relation to another post (sinus surgery) I have been told I need to have it however I haven't heard one good thing about the surgery. Dont think I want to go down that road yet...

Hi there! I haven't had the chance to welcome you to Healingwell sooooo welcome! :) I agree with you that waiting as long as possible for surgery is probably a good thing. I haven't heard too many good stories either. But if you have to have it done then it has to be done. Repetitive use of antibiotics is not good and can only make things more difficult for you further down the road because your body may not be able to properly fight an infection that has mutated or become resistant to that antibiotic. This is really a question for an ENT but some suggestions would be boost your immune system by taking either zinc or vitamin C. Also make sure you are taking a multivitamin every day. You can try cleansing your sinuses every now and then. I haven't tried this but it sounds like a good idea. If you have allergies, be sure to keep them in check. Doctors say that allergies don't lead to sinus infections but I find that hard to believe. When I kept getting sinus infections, my allergies were always at their worse. Another more drastic approach would be to have your tonsils or adnoids removed if you haven't already had that. I was like you, getting sinus infections every time I turned around but I had my tonsils and adnoids removed about 6 years ago and haven't had one since. It's been super!

Thanks Red for the nice welcome. I agree with you that introducing a multi-vitamin and extra Vitamin C would be a good thing. I have been on and off with a multi-vitamin...I just cant remember to take it daily. I do think cleaning the sinuses is a good idea....only makes sense, right? I have heard using saline nose sprays are also good to do on a daily basis. I suppose it keeps that bad stuff out of your nasal cavity.

Did you have bad allergy problems along with the sinus infections often? How did you come about to have your tonsils and adnoids removed? It sounds like a great idea if I wouldnt have anymore sinus infections!!

What lead me to have my tonsils and adnoids taken out was because I was constantly getting strep throat. The doc decided that she didn't like the idea of the bacteria entering my blood because I have MVP. She felt it safer to get those puppies out of there but the benefit from it was that now I don't hardly get sick from anything now including sinus infections. When I was getting them a lot, my allergies were 24/7.

Hello, I can relate to alot of what you are saying. I started developing sinus trouble in my teen years.My sinus problems sound alot like yours. I get repeated infection throughtout the year. Now, when I get a sinus infection I have to take a 6 week course of antibotics just to get rid of the infection.

I have a few suggestions for you. 1 is sinus rinses they really work. They take a little time getting used to doing. Get a flu shot when the time comes around. Get plenty of Vitamin C.
Saline nose sprays are good. Also talk to your doctor about taking a prescription nasal spray. Like Nasonex,Flonaase. I take Nasonex nasal spray .. Best nose spray I have ever used. Really helpful if you have nasal congestion with or without sinus infection. It isnt over the counter. need a doctors order for it. Hope this is some help. Good luck. Welcome.
