Last month I bought a white gold necklace and it was the first time that I wore a white gold necklace. I used to wear yellow gold necklace before. Some days later, I noticed red rashes on my skin around my neck. They were red but not itchy. I went to see a doctor immediately; I was really scared since that was the first time that something like had happened with me. The doctor explained to me that I am allergic to white gold jewelry and that I should stop wearing white gold jewelry. He prescribed me a cream Egocort and luckily the red rashes disappeared completely in some two weeks time. Ha something similar ever happened with someone? Will I never be able to wear white gold jewelry or is there some solution to this problem?

What Karat was the white gold? I can't wear any gold under 14K(prefer to get 18K or better. I get a rash and blistering if I wear any lesser K. Was hard when I was younger and need all pierced earrings to be at least 14K as it gets pricey.

I have a good friend that is just the opposite of you, she is allergic to yellow gold and can only wear white.

When I was younger, I could only tolerate 14K or higher in my earrings or my holes would get infected. As I got older, my allergic reactions became less and less until now it doesn't bother me to wear any type of earrings. The only recommendation I have is to try the white gold sporadically thru out the years and see if you can tolerate it or not. But truthfully, if you had such a severe reaction in the first place then it might be wise just to avoid white gold. Are you 100% that is ALL white gold and nothing mixed in it that could cause an allergic reaction?

Could be the percentage of nickel that they use in white gold. I also can't wear less than 14k - any color, or anything less than sterling silver. Having a reaction to nickel is very common. I still have to wear 14k in my ears - if I don't, they start itching within an hour or so. Really a bummer since they have such awesome earrings out now! On less than 14k rings I used to wear, I'd put clear nail polish on the inside of the ring - eliminated the rash. Unfortunately, that's hard to do on a necklace!
