Hi all. Has anyone here ever gone to an allergist and been diagnosed with LPR (reflux laryngitis) based on a breathing test? I did--I had allergy testing done (just the pinprick test on the back). Nothing truly significant, but I do have allergic rhinitis. Doctor did a breathing test, though, and said it was negative for asthma, but was very abnormal and had a pattern typical for patients with reflux problems. I'm already being treated for reflux with a PPI, so I don't think there's much else they can do for reflux short of surgery. I was telling my rheumatologist about
it, though, and he said he had never heard of LPR being diagnosed with a breathing test. And if the nasonex the allergist put me on takes care of the cough, then perhaps I don't have LPR at all. Frankly, I think I do have LPR. I've been dx with erosive gastritis/esophagitis for years which is why I'm on PPIs. Even so, I feel reflux all the way up to my ears at times--the acid is still taken care of by the PPI. My mother had bad reflux that got progressively worse over the years. She also had LPR in addition to the esophagitis etc... I have the same symptoms as her--hoarse voice, unproductive cough, trouble with food sticking in my throat, occassional aspiration at night and with drinks. Don't know if I should bother following up with a GI or an ENT, though. There is nothing more they can do.
