Hello ......
What a week!!!!
A week ago, Gizzy got very sick thru the night - pacing constantly and crying (first time ever). By Sunday night (a week ago) he finally would lay down and sleep for 15-minutes at a time.
By Monday morning, his sleeping was better ... and I had a pre-scheduled chemo therapy treatment. So I went to the doctors office, did my 4-hours there and came back home. Gizzy was not eating.
The next morning, I took him into the vet, as an emergency, and left him the morning for blood tests and eventually x-rays. The vet called me back to pick him up and cautioned that he was slightly dehydrated and the tests showed he had a kidney problem. He gave me two meds for Gizmo.
The next day, on Christmas, the vet called me to check how he was. He was drinking water well ... but still not eating. By Thursday morning, about 2:30am, he did finally eat a couple of crackers. So later that morning, I made some scrambled eggs for him - suggested by the vet.
By Friday morning, the vet called again and wanted to see Gizzy that afternoon. He had another blood test .... and in three days his BUN level went from a very high 96 down to a normal 21!
For a couple of days, I thought I was going to lose him ... and he's not even three years old yet. Now, two more days after the last blood draw, he is eating nearly normal like and he's acting just like he was two weeks ago - a little mischievous and very loving at the same time.
On Christmas day, my daughter did come over and we went out for lunch then to see Grandma at the Assisted Living Home. Of course, Gizmo did not go. Mom/Grandma was OK - not very talkative but not in a bad mood.
Last night, I got home from having a be-lated Christmas dinner out with my daughter and her BF. There was a message from Mom .... very unusual!
I called back and talked to her. Her mind was totally somewhere else. Thirty to fourty years ago, both of my parents had West Highland White Terriers that they showed and had a stud service for. My father was a part-time groomer of Westies and similar terriers.
I can only guess Moms mind was going far back when she said .... it was important for me to come over tomorrow because someone was delivering a dog to her. When I asked questions, she became mad and frustrated with herself that she couldn't remember exactly why she called me an hour earlier when leaving her message.
She did say her friend knew what it was about - so I called her friend. Her friend knew nothing about any dogs being delivered or that she had talked to Mom that day.
It's so confusing. Mom really sounded like this was happening - even though she couldn't remember just what it was.
This is the first time a major event was created in her mind that I know of. There have been many minor ones before, but this time she sounded so convincing - but frustrated. This can be a cruel disease!
On a brighter note - in celebration of Gizmo's return to normalcy, I have four photos of him for anyone who would like to see him.
The photos are:
1) lower photo is of Gizmo and his Bro - before I chose which puppy.
2) upper left photo is of Gizmo at 4-months old - portrait.
3) upper middle photo is of Gizmo at 15-months old - portrait.
4) upper right photo is of Gizmo at 15-months old - looking at a squirrel.
