Hi msnancy,
How I wished I had been given the advice Baglady gives. My wife Jean showed the early signs of Alzheimer's some 11yrs ago. Our daughter when she came home from abroad with her family every sixmonths, noticed changes in her mom. She advised her to see a doctor. He prescribed Prozac for depression! On our daughter's return home for good, she insisted I take Jean to the doc. He refered her to a specialist. I was in attendance as he carried out memory and co-ordination tests. He repeated a simple 3 line address over and over, the asked her to repeat it a number of times. Next as he clapped his hands to geather, alternating with one hand with a fist, flat hands then flat and fist. He invited her to join him she found it difficult. He returned to the address. Jean had trouble repeating the persons name and the town. From the results he recommended an MRI scan, advising me to expect it to show Alzheimer's. I know things will be much better for your Mom as I understand there are medications which can help. I was told about
four years ago my wife had reached the final stages. Now I have found no one appears to accept there may be different ways to care. That is why I joined the forum. Jean always tried to hide her illness from people, meeting our grandchildren in town, I tryed to show them something was wrong: "Jean, what day is it?" She "Don't you know?" They were telling their dad, Granma is OK, why is Grandad is saying something is wrong?
May your God go with you.
