How Good Is Ativan????????

hello everyone its me panike. i have a question has anyone ever taken ativan if so what kind of side effects did you get form it.I think I have taken them before but dont remember if they helped or not.The reason i asked is because my aunt is a nurse and she gave me some.Though I am not sure if i should take it. nono

I take Ativan. I can take up to 2 mgs a day and I'm pregnant. The psychiatrist had to up my dose because the panic was getting worse.

I was on .5 mgs a day and now I take 1 mg a day but I have yet to try 2 mgs a day as I don't need to.

I like it except the side effects tend to be short term memory loss.... like I feel absolutely demented but it could also be from pregnancy amnesia... I don't know which to blame here.. but I'll forget whether I fed the dogs one day or put on deoderant... or that I even kissed my fiance like 10 mins previously and I'll get mad cuz I didn't think he kissed me when he got home but he already had.

AGAIN it could be my absentmindedness... who knows...

but I do like the Ativan... a lot more than Klonopin or Xanax.. those medications simply make me tired... Ativan I don't feel drowsy when taking it but instead I feel calm yet have energy.

However I don't recommend you take something unless you have spoken with your doctor.

I took 4 mg of Ativan a day and have now weaned off Ativan completely, but it works.  I did not have any problems with side effects but I seem to be able to tolerate large doses fairly well.

I also would not take someone else's medcation.  See your physician to set up your own plan and obtain your own Rx.

I had the same problem as Twiggy with my short term memory loss......
I do still have to take it when broken out in the Pyoderma but other than that I dont take them daily anymore
Like Kitt I too was able to handle large doses w/o any problems other than S/T memory loss which I have just discoved the last few months

Please do see your own doc for meds ...although your aunt is a nurse she still does not know IF you may have a reaction to this med and IMHO she should know better ...than to give her meds to any one else ....not being a grump here lol .........just letting you know it is not good practice

I am forever called by family members wanting this med or that med ( am a walking pharmacy lol) and although I am a nurse ( retired ) I will not give them any meds they have to see their docs for that .....Just my thoughts

Thank you guys for your feed back,I took the ativan last night and i slept like a baby i am still sleepy now. about what you were sayin howlyncat, my aunt knows that she shouldn't share her meds but she has a little bout with anxiety too.She knows that i have panic attacks and how debilitating they can be for me.I told her i was having problems sleeping and i dont go back to the doctor until the middle of feb.So she just gave me a few until i go to dr and talk to him about my insomnia. Also i have taken similar meds before (xanax) prescribed by my doctor and she knew that.But i do understand your concerns.Also isn't that med(ativan) highly addictive?

Any of the benzos can be addicting or you may become just dependent on them.  If your taking for a short time I would not get concerned.

The AD's are not exactly addicting but withdrawal from them is tricky too.  Hugs to you (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))

Thanks kitt I'm always worrying about getting addicted TO some medication and having a hard time getting off!!!! I dont need that of all things. DO you know anything i can take that is not too habit forming that can be used for times when you need almost instant relief. I mean I take zoloft and i,ve been taking a med called hydroxizine as needed but sometimes when i'm having a real melt down the hydroxizine does not work very well. Any advice on something else i can use thats very effective but not going to turn me into a drug addict(lol) PLease let me know kitt? thank you hon!!!!! ( BIG BIG BIG HUGS!!!!!!!!!)

I dont think there is anything out there that is not habit forming to a point that will help you in this case

Benzos are used to get a faster acting result for your a/p and they are mostly habit forming........
The ativan like I said is a good drug it just gave me some short temr memory loss.......

I do wish you all the best in finding something.........

Ativan worked great for my anxiety. They didn't want to prescribe more than 12... it does get habit forming, because it relieves you so quickly... I was in the hospital thinking I had a kidney infection, once they gave me a shot of ativan, I was happy and ready to go home, lol.. its not always a good answer though, just because you have to learn how to handle these situations yourself when you can't get medication. I try yoga and meditation or self talk.. Meds are great, but knowing you can control the situation is so rewarding.
