I think my PDOC is a quack.

I can't get my doctor to give me anythign that REALLY works.

I am on 25mg of hydroxyzine which is a strong antihistimine but is used to treat anxiety.  It knocks me out when I take it at least it did for the first cpl days.  This is the same med in Tanquazine, Tran-Q, etc...  Now it doesn't do a darn thing.  Anxiety is so bad I am having to call off work cause I can't walk out the door.  Dr. prescribed for it interfering with work.  She also prescribed Neurontin and Celexa.  1st off the as needed  med (hydroxyzine) doesn't do anythign anymore, i'm afraid to take the neurontin aka gabapentin because there are lawsuits against it for the side effects , and celexa i am afraid to take cause a side effect of it is Bruxism aka tooth grinding which i already do and don't need it getting worse.  I told my PDOC abou the tooth grinding before it was scripted.  WHY IS MY DOCTOR TRYING TO KILL ME?  Neurontin.  Gimme a break.

I was diagnosed with mild OCD, general anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.  I understand her reasoning for it but she refuses to give, clonazepam, klonapin, xanax, or anythign narcotic to stop anxiety.  It cheaper, easier to manage as yah take as you need it not a blody fortune throughout the month.  I think they get way too much pressure and kick back from med companies to script things that cost a bloody fortune.  anyway itme for bed i just needed to vent and ask others opinions.

My suggestion would be to see a psychiatrist. I have only had success with a psychiatrist in my panic disorder as they actually understand what it is.

I'm not really familiar with any of the meds you are on except Celexa.  How is that working for you?

An ER doc tried to switch me from Ativan (which is like xanax or klonopin) to a sedative that was an antihistamine cuz I'm pregnant.  Only problem is antihistimines make my heart race and make me feel nuts so I don't know how that could have helped me.  I turned the med down and am still on my Ativan.

I don't know what a PDOC is but this doc does sound like a quack

I take because that was what Dr. was unloding at the time. Insurance would not cover it because it is not covered. So I ended up with zoloft. Which is supposed to be to help me sleep. Did'nt help me sleep. Was going to stop. But it seems to have helped with panic disorder which get very bad at times. I was taking lorazapam (adavin) for that, had to see a phys. for other prob. He told me not to take it because it was adictive. Don't you think I would know that after so many years? I do only take it as needed . He did'nt understand anxiety disorder just said stop. Well went for another sleep med. prescribed Temazapam which as I understan is the same as lorazapam. Also am taking gabapentin for pain never heard it was for anxiety. I'm confused help? june

A lot of pdocs won't give you the standard anti-anxiety meds because they're so addictive. Trying stopping any med and you'll probably find some form of withdrawal. I just wish the pdocs would look at our pain and the fact we don't have life before getting so gun ho about certain types of meds.

Well good morning and welcome to HealingWell.  I am Kitt.  Your dose of hydroxyzine is low IMHO and it is not a med meant for  long term use, greater than 6 months.  A benzo is a much better choice.

I agree, find a new physician that you can build a trust relationship with. I personally had a horrible reaction to the Neurontin so I have it listed as an allergy.  I ended up in ER and staying overnight in hospital.

I know it works for others but each of us is different. Please make an appointment with a new physician.

Hey june... well I was on Zoloft myself a few years ago and it did NOT help me sleep... in fact I had more panic attacks on the med and it kept me up all night with anxiety.

I'm on Lexapro (don't have insurance) and it costs me around $88 a month EEK expensive. But worth it. The thing with Lexapro is a lot of people have to take it at night because it makes them sleepy during the day. (maybe my panic is too high because I take mine in the morning and feel fine, even panicky) IMO anti-depressants are NOT for panic disorder but for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Depression (which it states on every website of every SSRI med)

IMO, I don't find Ativan or benzos addicting, so I disagree with Aussie. It's just that I take an extra dose when I'm having a really bad panic attack or something... which I rarely ever do... I just take my daily dose that helps me feel stable and not panicky 24/7. I'm not on a very high dose either. 1 mg / a day, and I can take 2 mgs a day but I don't want to feel loopy! So I've never taken 2 mgs.

What is with your doc putting you on all these sleep meds? Sleep meds are addicting, prolly more addicting than a benzo! But you're having trouble with sleeping, right? Benzos are not really for sleep IMO, they're for anxiety/panic.

Gabapentin... never heard of it... it's a pain med so it probably isn't going to help you with anxiety unless it's morphine that will dope you up.. (which still wouldn't help you anyway in the long run with panic/anxiety)
