Diazepam before dental surgery?

Hi there, I have a fear of the dentist. More recently I have developed anxiety and panic attacks well in advance (a few days) prior to treatment. My question is; should I take Diazepam for 24 hours prior to treatment?

The dental surgeon has already prescribed it to try for my next visit.

I have never taken any medication like diazepam before and was wondering if there might be an alternative I could try. Although I was so bad before my last visit and during the treatment, I would be prepared to take the diazepam as long as it helps.

I have to go back in a week for a large filling (close to the root) and I am already worrying about it. I never used to be this bad.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

It feels to me like your oral surgeon has chosen a good medication pre-dental procedure.  I would not worry about taking it as you say if it helps.  It is prescribed for anxiety and is one of many in  the Benzodiazepine class.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I did take the diazepam before the treatment and it really helped me.

I certainly didn't have a panick attack. I was quite anxious, but nothing like the time before.
