  hello , I am new here , well I have been " reading " this forum for awhile . I think I finally found a great forum . I'm kinda shy and I don't post much , but with this forum I think I will feel more comfortable . I love how the mods. are right here talking to everybody , that is so great . Other forums , mods just come in when you write something that is "not allowed " . It seems so cold and makes you afraid to post anything . And a chat room , that is really great.

  about me , my name is Megie , I have Anxiety , Panic attacks and Depression . I was having Panic attacts before Drs. even knew what they were . I can't be in a enclosed space , shopping malls , traffic jam anywhere I can't escape . Doing better now .

  My main anxiety right now comes from my son . ( worry worry worry ) He lost his job as an app. electrician because of the housing crises . Was working on new homes . He has a 3 yr old daughter ( my angel ) and a baby coming in June . He is now working but at a much lower pay scale . A couple weeks ago we found out his daughter needs surgery on her foot ( not growing right ) We are praying they can have the surgery done here , they might want to send her to the Shriners hospital in Sacramento , I know this is the best place for her to go , but my son can't go because he just started job . I can't go because I would be in a total panic . I can't be away from home that long without my husband .

I have been on alot of anti-depressant over the yrs , was off for a number of yrs . Now I am back on them Dr. put me on Cymbalta , its been six weeks and I am feeling much better ( hubby even sees a difference ) I can laugh now ! I am also on xanax but don't take as much now with the Cymbalta . I don't wake up in middle of night with a dreadful feeling , and start having a panic attack . I do wake up alot but go right back to sleep , sleep is yummy , after not sleeping for months .

  O.K. made a positive move today by finally getting the nerve to write this post . I'm going to get me a poker chip ! Thanks for being here everyone !! Megie

Welcome Megie,

You truly have found a great place, the support here is amazing!! It sounds like you are taking the right steps toward getting yourself to a better place!!! I wish you luck with your family, keep in mind that whenever things get a bit tough, God finds a way of creating greater opportunities and lifting some of the burden. Can your husband go with your granddaughter to have the surgery, or another family member that might have an easier time of it than you do? God Bless you and I hope that you are able to decrease your worrying (I won't be silly and tell you not to worry, I have children too and completely understand).

Again, welcome and please post often!

Welcome! I'm glad you joined in. Definitely more than one poker chip for overcoming your shyness and putting up some posts! This is definitely a supportive place.

That's really good news that your news medication is working for you.

I don't have kids, but I certainly sympathize with worrying about family members who have health troubles or job woes. I'm glad your son was able to find another position; with luck his pay will climb back up there quickly. I do hope your granddaughter's surgery and the arrangements for it go smoothly.

Megie, warm welcomes, it is so lovely to have you here (I'm even going to give you a few of my poker chips okay!!).  It sounds like you've got a fair bit of experience with panic/anxiety and depression..I wish they gave us degrees for this sort of thing!! We would be genius!

I understand about your worry about your granddaughters surgery..I would be stressed out too.  Even if you can't be there for the surgery I know that you will be able to support your son and his family.  Try not to imagine the worst (yes easy said - hard to do) and remember to take care of YOU in this difficult time.

I'm so very happy that your Cymbalta is working well for you and that you are getting some blessed sleep.  Insomnia is really awful and makes things that bit worse. 

Again, I am so glad you posted, we are a little supportive family here and I am happy you have become one of us! Please keep us up to date with everything.  :-)

Good morning everyone , Thank you all for your kind responses ! I feel like you are my family . All my family have moved away . They are in driving distance (2 to 8 hours away ) but thats out of the question . Just have my son and husband here and my " little angel " of course .
Going to pick up my grandaughter today , my big drive into town 26 miles , for the week-end . Kinda shaky this morning . Need to get groceries too .
Got her a doctors appt. next Wednesday , hopefully he is good and doesn't want her to go to Shriners . But God knows whats best so I have to trust him with whatever dicision is made .

Hello and welcome to HealingWell and the A & P forum.  We are family here and now you are one of us so please keep reading and posting.

I am so sorry about your son's job and the probable surgery your granddaughter may need.  I know you want to be with her and if the surgery can be done locally that would be great so we will all pray for her.

I have had anxiety and depression for 28 years so I understand it well.  I also take Cymbalta and for sleep low dose Trazadone, 100 mg.  the first dose I took of it for sleep was a joke but I took it again the next night and I slept well with it.

I only have to drive 7 miles to town, so 26 miles should give  you a fist full of poker chips.........go collect those chips.

Just think about how wonderful it will be to see your little granddaughter; that tough ride will be so very well worth it. I sure hope you get good news from the doctor; as you say, even if her surgery has to be away from you, it will in the end be because that's what's best for her. We'll be thinking of you and praying for you!

Hi Megie,   Welcome to Healing Well, you have found the best site for support and help.  I can't say enough good things about how this site and all these wonderful members have helped me though some difficult times.  The support here is just great - no judgement at all, just help and support.   Anxiety and panic can be awful and debilitating, but if we take it just one day at a time (that's what I have to do) we can beat it and not let it take over our lives.  I'm sorry that your family has so many things going on right now with your son's job problems and your granddaughter's foot.  I pray and hope that all goes well with that.  No matter how old our children get, we still worry about them.   By the way, because I also deal with agoraphobia I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere, never mind 26 miles - so big KUDOS to you.  You deserve many poker chips for that!!!!  Keep up the good work.  Little by little things can be better, it may never go away completely, but it can get better.  Keep posting to let us know how everything is going and so that we can get to know you better, we care and will support you however we can.   Take care and (((((HUGS))))), Wen

Thank you everybody for the kind and encouraging words . My little angel is sleeping so I thought I would check in . You guys are great ! I know this is the best place ( this forum ) been to a few and haven't found any so loving and caring . Sometime I would like to get to know you all better in the chat rooms .

We are having a beautiful day here , Jordan ( granddaughter ) has been out playing all day . This is her " happy place " she just loves our dogs and they love her . I have to big German Shepherd Dogs , the female is 7 years old , so gentle . The Male out weighs her by 80 lbs . but they are the same age and he and she grew up together . He never lets her out of his sight . We have a fully fenced half acre so she can't get out , dogs either . She has to have both dogs and cat in bed with her when she goes to bed .

I am hoping to get my vegetable garden going next week-end . hubby has to till it up for me . Usually start in April , weather always gets to cold and I have to go cover my plants . We have a very short growing season here . But I love working outdoors , I do all the yard work , got my lawn mowed this morning . There is something about working in my garden and getting my hands dirty , that really brings me peace . Of course the tomatoes are to die for .

Ok now you know a little more about me . But I got to tell you , we have been having earhtquakes here for the last two months , last night a pretty big one . I didn't feel it but my son called at midnight ( have to tell you when my cell phone rings after 8 at night I go straight to a panic attack ) and asked if we were all right . Welllll I was until the phone rang :( . Used to live in California , never got used to earthquakes , talk about loss of control . I am not a controlling person at all to other ppl , just my envirement . ( fight or flight ) eeewww hope we don't have anymore . I had to take a xanax at midnight , thought I might have to take two but I was ok . Thank again everyone :) , Megie

This is Kitt and thank you for sharing with us.  I can understand your love for your granddaughter.  I share that with you.  Our dog is a doberman and is very protective. My two older granddaughters, 14 and 16 have been showing dogs in competetion since they were 7 years old.  They raise and show Boston terriers and Dobermans.  I love to go watch them but not always possible to go to every show.

I am in MN so I am guessing if your getting the earthquake activity you are south of me. I think that would be very scary.  I hate the bad storms we have here, both winter and spring time.

I loved your story about the planting of your hope jar. That was awesome.

I am so glad to get to know you better.  You are family here with us.

It sounds like you had a pretty good day until the phone call. That's wonderful that your grandaughter is so comfortable and happy at your home. It really is special when that kind of connection develops between the generations in a family.

I'm sorry the call from your son shook you up so much. Once that automatic startle response jumps in, it's hard to settle back down; at least it is for me. I'm glad the xanax helped.

Lots of us are working on gardens here. I hope to till mine today and get the catnip in the ground with some nice, sturdy wire around it. The kitties love it, but I'd like them to have a constant supply, not just one day's worth before they smash it into oblivion with their ecstatic rolling on it!

I so love and chearish my GB Kyle and Kassidy but I have a really ___ DIL that has not allowed me to see them for eons.........It rips my heart apart...I live vicariously thru others like LIl sis ( kitt) and you when you talk of Grandkids......and all others that have the joy of getting to see theirs ......
IF I had my way and both Wen and Kitt know this I would have them taken away from her ......for very specific reasons........

I too am so sorry the call got you upset like it did
I dont like hearing the phone ring late at night or during what us ole nurses call "death hours" 4 am 6 am ....
Makes me go into straight panic attack..and reach for the valium lol

I just wanted to let you know that I'll be thinking of you and your granddaughter tomorrow when you go for her appointment. I'll be praying that her doctor has a plan for her surgery that will be best for her.

My husband works in insurance risk so he has to tell me all he learned at over dinner in bed. WHen we moved to the suburbs of SnnFransico, earthquakes coverage for all the major faults in his lap. We are on the contra costa fault . It is always active so there is less of a chance of a big one. the one in SanJose ,30 min, from here is more strongbut less active- it ruptures every 6 months. The big san Andreas fault is quite and that is scary.

The mid-west is due for another earthquake. The fault that moved (you felt it) is a diferrent plate strcuture and since there has been little activity, something had to give. All we do know is that the New Madrid fault is the dealiest disaster about to happen. Last time the quakes didn't stop for 3 months. The rupture created the Mississppi. There were sand blasts and places where buidling would disappear into the ground. My husband put together an attack and respond team for when this fault moves. Try to get insurance quickly, most companies have already excluded you. But you this activity may protect you from some of the damage a rupture on the New Madrid could cause.

I hope information will make you understand earthquakes slightly better. Always turn off the gas or your house may explode! Get out out your home if it feels strong or they begin to build up. I leave on the first one. Pack a survival suitcase. One extra pair of clothe. Copies of all important document ,water,blankets,fashlight,( crayons,papers, and a wrapped gift if you have youg kids). For once I did those things I stopped being scared of living witheathrqukes, except when we are on the brides crossing to SanFransico.

   yes I remember when the bay bridge collasped . Terrible, live in nv now . I am starting a new topic . I had hubby show me where the gas shut off is . thank you quiet pain . thank you percycat for your prayers . what a fantastic family I have found . Hugs megie
