redface   Yes folks today IS the 13th and yes it is FRIDAY

I have to say

VERY SUPERSTITOUS......I am .... devil

get it from my GMA and Mom and

of course have passed it down to Cait lol

 

Some of mine are

 

1....Never put NEW shoes on table...death

 

2... If a bird hits your window......injury or death to a loved one 

 

3...Never touch my feet with a broom or mop.( not even on good days) this will cause probs 

 

4.... If you put your shirt on inside out or backwards ..leave it that way seriously.....OR BEWARE devil

   

5.....Things ALEAYS do happen in 3's

These are only a few I just have tons of them tongue

 

But I am hoping some of you will post about your if you have any

And if you dont why you done..........

An interesting thread this could be as to how we were brought up .....culteral bkgds ect...IMHO

It is Freaky Friday the 13th,  Knock on Wood............. Don't walk under ladders and stay the heck away from black cats. Don't step on a crack or you know what will happen.

Oh yes be sure your wearing clean underwear in case you get into an accident.  Now if I got into an accident I am afraid I could not keep my underwear from getting soiled.............. redface

Big Sis, I respect your request for prayers and may God be walking by your side today and keep you safe and help you through your day out. You know I am with you on your shoulder so you are not alone.

My favorite ghost was always Casper.............cuss that little guy was so friendly.

I don't really have superstitions---I don't know why--- but, my Mom has told me some that her family believe.

A couple are:

* Never accept knives as a gift from ANYONE-- they will end up hurting you badly (if you do accept the knives--tape a penny on it)
* if you drop a spoon on the floor, it means someone is coming to visit you (with good or bad news)

We have a BLACK cat---he is adorable---and our best friend. He is now 15, and deaf!!! I won't let him out of the house on Halloween or Friday the 13ths b/c people believe in superstitions with BLACK cats! (in the sun---he actually looks like a raisin color---and has stripes!!!!) He's my "wuv"-----he knows many of my secrets----! :)

Kitt: I had to laugh about the "don't step on a crack, b/c ya' know...."----- my kids tell everyone that my back is broken---and I laugh, and tell that person it's because they keep stepping on cracks!!!

Also---the clean underwear! My Mom says the same thing! My Mom is almost 80----one night she woke up not feeling well--to the point where she thought she would go to the hospital (we don't live in the same town- 3 hrs. away)----so, she said she went and got dressed---put on clean underwear b/c "if the ambulance had to come and get me.....well, my underwear WILL be clean!"

I will pray for you today--- I know it can be hard! I have two brothers with 13s birthdates---and we think it's pretty cool! But--I understand your anxiety----

OH!!!! LYN!!!

I think I believe in one of those superstitions--- the "things happen in 3s"--- it does seem to be the way! OK--so that is one I believe in!

I used to be a nurse's aide at a local nursing home when I was in high school.  I remember when some of the residents there passed away, the thought was that the deaths happen in threes.  So when two residents passed away close to each other, we were anxiously waiting for the third.  Isn't that morbid?  I have heard that, too, though, about things happening in threes.

I don't know that I have any superstitions about Friday the 13th but I have my own OCD superstitions that I'm trying to get over. 

One being that everything has to be even - if I am only hungry for three cookies, I'll stuff a fourth one down to be even.  Otherwise, something bad will happen to whoever I am thinking about at the time.  That's not just with cookies - but with everything.  I tell you I'm all screwed up. 

I used to pet my cat a certain number of times.  For example, if I was 30 years old at the time, I couldn't pet him 31 times because that meant that I would die at age 31.  I always had to pet him either less than my age or a lot of times past my age to make sure I lived a long life.  I know it's crazy but those are just a couple of my screwed up superstitions that have nothing to do with anything.  I'd love to get rid of these crazy thoughts too....hopefully someday.

Good luck with your Friday the 13th and getting out of the house.  I'll say a little prayer for you!

Let's see....what other crazy things do I do?

My husband noticed that when I'm sitting on the couch, I sit in the middle. There are three cushions and I always sit in the middle. He said I'm wearing out the middle cushion but then he realized that I have a need for symmetry. I can't sit on the end - I have to sit in the middle so I can have a cushion on each side of me.

There is a park here in town that is 3 miles around. Let me tell you that it killed me to do one loop because it was 3 miles. Sometimes, I would have to go that extra mile to make it even. I'm not so bad about that anymore but when my anxiety is up and I'm at the loop, it's either 2 miles or 4 miles.

Who can I blame for this tendency? I need to blame someone and give them a piece of my mind - haha! I know it's crazy stuff but I just can't stop it. I was really hoping the Paxil would help. I am not as bad as I used to be but some things are still quite bothersome to me.

I can't leave the house without checking everything and making sure I see all the kitties before I walk out the door. My checking used to be a lot worse but now, it doesn't take me long to get out the door. Still kinda drives my husband nuts, though.

Harlan to funny! the cookie thing made me crack up!

I too agree with the everything happens in 3's. Back about 8years ago when I found out I was prego with my lil girl the very next week I found out one of my friends was too and following week found out my friend's friend was too! LOL if that makes since. All of us were had our babies within a few weeks of eachother.

I have to throw salt over my shoulders i spill/knock over the salt. I have to always always shake out my shoes before I put them on.
I always have to go and check on my kids if I wake up in the middle of the night and make sure they are not to hot or cold and still breathing...they are 5 and 7! I have done that even when I was really really sick cuz i feel like if I dont something bad will happen.
I use to have alot of other stuff I use to do but now days that stuff doesnt really bother me.

My mother will not let you give her knives or give them to anyone without atleast giveing them a peeny to pay for them. The old saying is if you give a kinfe/knives to someone with paying for them then you will cut your ties with them.

I have such an awesome husband to put up with all my OCD stuff.  I better keep him, huh?

Yeah, cookies, candy.  Oh man....skittles are the worst.  If there are only three left, that is not good.  As crazy as it sounds, I still can't stop it.  You'd think all this Paxil would be helping me but my doc says I may even need 75mg.  Geez....can't imagine 75mg of this stuff!

I know what you mean about the middle of the night.  It's almost like you woke up for a reason and if you don't check on the kids, then something will happen.  I don't have children - just the four-legged kind (cats).  I've woken up and went to check on them before, too.  Otherwise, I can't get back to sleep.

That's interesting about the knives.  I'd not heard that one before.  Makes me wonder now because if you look at some of my previous threads, I don't have the best relationship with my mom.  She gave us a set of knives for Christmas a few years ago.  Wonder if that was supposed to cut the ties with us?  Hmmm....makes me wonder now.

It is still Friday the 13th...............I am worrying about Lyn.  So here I wait and I am reading your posts..............you are just the best people I know.

I come from poor folk, they were so poor they got stuck with me redface . My Grandpa had an outhouse, the neighborhood kids loved to tip it over on Friday the 13th.  Oh my I am glad I have my potty indoors.

One of my favorite is to saran wrap someones car doors shut............it takes the commercial size box of saran wrap but you know how hard it is to fing the beginning of the saran wrap.....................I carry a scissors in my purse. devil

One of my favorites was the apple stem thing when I was dating age:  As you twist the apple to get the stem out, you say the A,B,Cs and whichever letter you are on when the stem comes off is the first initial of the name of the guy you are gonna marry.  Or cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside and that supposedly is how many children you will have.

Those are great, I must have had an apple somewhere along the way with 4 seeds in it, 3 boy seeds and a girl seed..............lol.

In highschool a really nice girl who was really into her books drove a volkswagon.  Everyday the guys would go and pick up her car and put it on the sidewalk. 

I had a friend that would steal my bag lunch as I hated the cafeteria food.  She would get hungry in the mornings and go and eat my sandwich.  I beat her up. cool .  No I did not really but I finally just made 2 sandwiches.

That is certainly a saintly way to deal with a lunch-thievin' friend!

I used to have many many superstitions - stepping on a crack, ladder, the salt-spilling one. Until reading this thread I never thought about superstitions as a way to combat fear or anxiety by trying to have some kind of control over the randomness of life.

But I guess that's what it is!

The only one I still react to is having a black cat run across my path if I'm driving or walking. Long ago my best friend, rest his soul, told me something to say in Hebrew to "ward off the evil eye." It sounds like "Koyna Hora Ma Shoog Uh Dah." I don't know what it means or how it's really spelled. Still, to this day, whenever a black cat crosses my path, I say that little phrase (which I am probably saying all wrong! maybe that's why I keep messsing up my life!) and I knock on "wood" (I'm usually in the car so I'll knock on any scrap of paper, or a pencil, that I can see while driving. Paper and pencils are from wood! Once or twice I couldn't see any paper scraps but I had on clothing made of rayon, which is from wood pulp, so I knocked on that. Then I "spit" three times over my left shoulder. I don't actually spit, I just turn my head and go "tuh, tuh, tuh" as if spitting.

It's so funny to write it all out! How silly and deeply complex! I have done this since I was about 18 or 19. I'm 43 now. I don't think I've ever stopped and thought about it once in all that time.

Well folks here we are still posting on Lyn's Friday the 13th thread and it is 10:00 PM at her home and I have not heard a word.  I hope she got home and was so exhausted she fell asleep but I may try to call there anyhow.

I am just scared for her and her test today.  You have all been great in keeping the post going and now I will knock on wood and pick up the phone.
