MPD,

I'd love more than anything to feel the fear and do it anyway,but it goes a little somefun like this:fear wins everytime..am devising a plan..I try doing things I fear hoping it be easier,but it doesn't work well for me..thank you for the suggestions will continue trying..

Have you been to see a specialist re your condition.

It is treatable.  You best bet is to a psychiatrist - as they understand how the brain works and what medication and steps to take.   I do believe your condition can be rectified.  Also your type of condition leads to depression. Seek help.

I mean no disrespect,so please don't take me wrongly or misunderstand because I know you mean well.I've had Anxiety,Panic Disorder and on/off Agoraphobia 13 Years.I've done the Therapy and Psychiatrist thing and it's not my "Cup of Tea'.I choose not to see a Therapist and Psychiatrist.I'm experiencing horrible Anticipatory Anxiety,Health Anxiety and a turn for the worse Agoraphobia due to grief and the losses I've had.Have a Doctor's Appointment Wednesday to be prescribed Anti-Anxiety Medication again.

about 2 years ago I had a ricidulous fear well shall I say my friends could not understand.

I live in Johannesburg South Africa and their is a major Road called William Nicol.  I have travelled that road probably thousands of times over many years.  Well about 2 years ago I suddenly had a block about using the road, it made me nervous anxious and very frightened for no reason etc to the point I started cancelling my appointments when I had no choice but to use this road. 

When I told a friend of mine re what was happening to me - he suggested I buy a book called HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE IN 7 DAYS it also comes with a CD which I downloaded onto my IPod and every night I listened to the CD.  I would say after listneing for about 3 weeks (definitely not 7 days) - I suddenly found myself driving to an appointment on the William Nicol.  I only realised this when I was almost at the appointment - I could not believe it.  When I left for the appointment I just took this route without even a thought and since then have no problem using this route.  The CD did assist me with other blocks I had but at the moment I cannot think what they are.  When I do I will let you know.

Keep your head up and push ahead as best you can.  Thousands of people understand and have been through what you are going thru.  Remember You are not alone.

Remember we are all here for you and don't worry about not conquering all your fears and anxieties at once.  Just pick one sweetie and see how it goes.  Don't worry about the 2 steps forward and one step back routine.  Your still making progress.

Look how you can come here and let out your feelings.............that is a positive.  You are trusting us to help you and yet you are strong enough to speak up and say what you have tried in the past and it did not work and your not ready to go that route again at this time.

You have overcome so much in the short time I have met you, it seems to me that YOU are your best therapist. Just keep challenging yourself and you will keep winning. And I'm coming over to paint our nails red honey!

Thinking about you.
You say you are going to the Dr this week re: Anti Anxiety Medication again.
I take it you have been on this type of medication before, when you took it how did you react to it?
Is there anything that happened in your life that brought this on?

Thank you..yes I have Doctor's Appointment Wednesday Afternoon.I've been on every Anti-Anxiety Medication known to Man and also took several Anti-Depressants.I reacted very well.The Agoraphobia was minimal (I could go outside without problem and managed to make a few trips away from Home),but Graduating from College,I thought I didn't need it anymore..BIG mistake..HUGE!Agoraphobia has been of the housebound type for about really soon 7 Years..after the death of my Grandmother who was like a Mother to me..after my Step-Mother died,I eventually became completely housebound..

I HAVE overcome so much in a short time and AM my best Therapist.I have the Tools at Hand to overcome this monster,it's just breaking through the wall of Anticipatory Anxiety to get on the other side..

Let me ask you this..when you had the block of travelling the William Nicol were you afraid of being nervous and Anxious,or were you also afraid of feeling that way in front of others?

I've saw 3 Therapists,about 4-7 Pyschiatrists,a DO and 2 MD's treating my Disorder and Phobia.It's not that it didn't work..

Good Morning Sydnee,

You lost me there as I do not know what I said in my post that triggered your answer.  I was referring to your not wanting to go back into therapy right now as you feel you are doing good working on your issues and making headway. 

If it is working for you, keep it up is my motto.

William Nicol.
I had a mental block which said no no no no - I felt terrified at the thought of driving on the William Nicol.
It started slowly with me thinking I cannot face going on the William Nicol until eventually there was no ways I could get myself to travel on the William Nicol.
As far as other people go, I think I was okay with certain friends the ones who are soft, gentle, kind and understanding and not critical - the others I dreaded seeing or bumping into them - I do like them but they can be very critical of people. The fear of bumping into people I know and did not want to see at the time made me fear going to shopping centres in case I bumped into them or anyone else I knew (Clients) from the work I do.
When I had to go to the shopping centres to buy food, medicine etc. I trembled and it took me days to go, I had no choice firstly I could not be without my medications and also food. When I went to the shopping centres I wore sunglasses and walked with my head down I did not want to look around in case there happened to be someone I knew. When I came home I was still in a state I did not even feel I had achieved anything by going to the shopping centre - in other words it did make me feel any better.
It was horrific to say the least and I was very, very confused as I always was an extrovert, loved entertaining going out with friends and having fun. Helping other people who are less privilidged than me etc. etc.
As the medication originally did work for you I suggest it will do wonders for you to go onto it again - and eventually you feel so much better and the fears will continuously decrease. These types of medications get the seretonum going, we need seretonum which makes us feel like normal people. The more fears we have, depression etc the less seretonum the brain gives off and we decline.
Please let me know how you are?
Are you finding that mentally being on this website is doing you some good - and I do not mean forcing yourself to do the things that you fear. Just by typing how you are feeling?
What do you do? Are you in the house all the time? If so what do you do during the day.

I wanted to congratulate you on getting out of the house - even if just for a little while. I was completely housebound for a little while and stay at home for about 85-90 percent of the time now depending on how many doctor appointments and what the family tries to convince me to try on the weekends. I can remember the "walk to the mailbox" and that my legs felt like they would give out and my heart would beat through my chest. I just wanted to say congrats and keep up the good work. I pray that you find help with meds this time. I am looking at trying them again also as I haven't much luck in the past either.
