Hi, Coe, and welcome! Just looking for a job and not finding one can cause anxiety. It's always on your mind. I used to suffer greatly with anxiety but then I realized it was actually fear. Then I asked myself what was I afraid of. Yes, I had problems that I needed to handle but nothing that I had to be frightened about. When that realization really set in my mind, the anxiety got a lot better.
I have had the heart-skipping, too. I did go to the doctor and have everything checked out to make sure there was no problem with my heart. Once I knew that I was fine, the heart palpatations got less and less because I recognized that as anxiety-related and I haven't had that for a long time now!
I know how your mind can conjure up all sorts of terrible things but they usually are not true at all! You can worry and worry and then, when things resolve, you see you didn't have to worry after all and that the worrying didn't help one bit. All it did was make you feel ill!
When the pressure in your chest is tight, take a deep breath through your nose and blow it slowly out your mouth...like you are blowing through a straw. Do that a few times and I think you will feel the muscles start to relax. Then, when you are trying to get to sleep, squeeze your toes as tight as you can and then release them. Then tighten your leg muscles as tight as you can and then release them. Work up you whole body this way. It may really relax you so you can get to sleep. I like to fall asleep with the television on. I pick an light-hearted program and the next thing I know, I'm asleep! I turn the TV off the first time I get up in the night.
I hope some of this helps you. Take care and have a much better evening!
